What the heck
« on: September 30, 2017, 11:16:34 AM »
This is saying to sync your carbs you take the top lids off the carbs and adjust in there!?

I always adjusted with the gauges and the long screw driver with the things on the left and right aide of the carb?

Carb sync adjusts vacuum balance/
The carb side screws adjust pilot fuel mixtures.
The shop manual explains this.

Ah , yeah right after I posted I realized haha..

So if my bike smells super rich despite adjustments of the pilot air screws and other things, this could be the reason?

Seemed to me the magazine got the carb sync setup mostly correct.  They added a note about making sure the slide linkages were snug.  Should the be difficulty getting an even sync.  Sorry that added to OP's confusion.

If your bike "smells" rich - it probably is - do a plug chop and adjust accordingly.  Sync only has a little effect on A/F mixture.

Are the inside of your exhaust pipes sooting up?

Use choke a lot?

What settings do you have the pilot screws now?

Do you do prolonged idles?

The idle setting has to be on the rich side, or you can't advance throttle under load.  Can't tell from here if yours it really too rich.

Idle plug chop pictures might tell a story, though.  Start with clean plugs after you've done engine warm up.

Not for nothing, but if you look closely at that “picture” you posted, they start with round top carbs, then swap over to PDs within the procedure. Someone seems to be grabbing images without regard for a particular model or year.

Not related to your dilemma, just an observation.

Boy, no kidding. Three different carb types. Do they even have an editor?

1.) Nor correctly set ignition can act as wrong synched carbs. Check that F aligns with case mark at around 1000-1200 rpm, full advance when it should, something between 2500 - 3000 rpm.

2.) Verify the jetting before synch. Not too rich pilot, needles, airscrews/fuelscrews. All carbs must be correctly jetted, not dirty inside. Ignition wires have all good connections, fastened.
