Fixed Slide vs CV carbs
« on: November 11, 2017, 01:31:27 PM »
Hey guys, quick poll

Fixed slide carb or Constant Velocity diaphragm version?

The KZ550A’s were offered with both styles.  Wondering which would be better for a cafe pod racer

Trash Can is evidence that mikuni cv’s can run good on pods.  With big BIG jet changes.

Got the dyno number for that 750/3 - 59rwhp!
With ~13.5% fuel mix at the sniffer.

I used to have the carburettor of a CBX750 on my cb500 Four and it was amazingly good. I still had the air box through.

And yes they are CV.

CV carbs are good especially when you get into later models with semi flat slides. In the real, everyday riding world they are an excellent choice.

My experience with tuning CV's is limited at best but if there is an issue with them it seems that they are real sensitive to change whether it be airbox to pods or different exhaust. My kid had a cbr600 F3 that had flat slide CV's, the bike ran great when stock but the moment my kid changed the exhaust he had to get a jet kit to make the carbs happy. He later had the cyl head professionally ported and that too opened up a can of worms with the carbs. Maybe my kid is a bit impatient or too much of a perfectionist but he got so sick of messing with carbs that he sold the bike and bought an F4i instead. On the other hand both my wife's cb350 twin and my GL1100 have CV's but so long as I keep everything stock I haven't had issues with them.

apparently "keep it stock" is not in my vocabulary  ::) :o

this little z550 kawi will be getting the usual magazine modifications.

several people who viewed the draft rendering think 4 into 2's will set it off.  I'm quite partial to 4into1's myself.  besides, i think it's a supertrapp header on the bike.  rusty as hell, but if it's a full trapp system, well...that's super!
