Topic: Went out for a ride and I never went back

Today in work just got to the point where I said "ça suffit"

So I went for a ride . . . ..

I'm happy I did it . Tomorrow I'm sure to be scared.

Anybody done the same thing ?

Been a while, but about 45 year ago I was bagging groceries making $1.60hr. Can't even remember what it was but got pisssed off about something and went to lunch on my 1971 SL175 and never went back .I know most of us have felt like this many times over our life

 I thought for a second..then....
 I said here you can have mine,..  I said the job I don't mind, the bull #$%* I can't stand.
 I got out the hole and held out the shovel.. the guy looked at me, then the boss.,
 Then the boss said, if you want to work..here you go.
 I walked out ..

 Not sure why I did it, worked for him again many times, he worked you hard but was fair.

I'm asked back for an "interview" tomorrow. But meantime lots of friends in France advised me of my rights. Apparently I can demand two months pay at a minimum. And then claim unemployment benefit.

And I'm not even a communist !!

I moved to Lexington in 83 from NY. Had a job as assistant furniture sales. I wore a suit and tie. The job ended. I looked for other work with the suit and tie. Could not find anything but selling Electrolux vacuums and grave plots and headstones door to door. I saw a sign at a car wash "Help Wanted". It was 90 degrees out. I was drying cars sweating my arse off.Then a dude parked a Datsun on my shoe. I was already considering changing occupations. I got in my car and left. I later found a job at a department store and Arby's. Then my girl and I moved back to NY.Maybe I should have stayed in Kentucky.35 years later,I'm a cab driver and work 50 + hours at age 53. I'm off today though and it feels great.Maybe a new better job will show up someday. I also make a little money singing/ playing guitar with a friend at a local bar. They give me 25 bucks and 10 chicken wings for 2 hour show 5:30 to 7:30.I'm paying the bills and a have a running CB750. Things are good.Good luck on your job search. My brother just lost his job as a cardboard factory here just closed, he was there for 12 years.I hope he finds something soon.He's 57 and always been a very hard worker.Take Care, Tom.

Sometimes, I think, having a "job" is rated too highly. Everybody has worth and can contribute. Even the Australians ! Me, i'm the fcuk out of France next year, going to a third world country where my pension will allow me to live in a quasi regal fashion.

My employer can be tough on newbies and the company has a high turnover rate because of it and has to resort to employment agencies for new workers and these employment agencies tend to be bottom of the barrel. Our plant superintendent once made the comment during a meeting that people just don't seem to want to work, I had to bite my tongue and I agree many are free loaders but the main reason is it's not because people in this area don't want to work for a paycheck ...... but rather because they simply don't want to work here.

 I called in sick and went for a ride on my new cb500 K2. I followed my brother too fast and deep in a turn, chickened out and went wide onto the shoulder. That went well, but getting back on I failed to notice the 2 1/2" difference in height of the pavement. Yup, tank slapper leading into a high side leading into a full round of road rash, burned up denim and an egg growing on my elbow. The Hospital called the cops and we made a report.
 I was sure I'd get fired because it happened early enough it was in the local newspaper that afternoon. When I went in to work the next day everyone had seen it in the paper but assumed I missed work because I wrecked my bike not vice versa.

Working for other people is just the pits.
After completing my apprenticeship in 84 decided it would be ideal to work for myself.
Since then, worked for 6 months at a foundry where I spat the dummy and quit at the drop of a hat. Spent a few years building houses, cause I wanted to learn how to make a house. And for the rest have worked for myself in a workshop, 10 meters from my house. Which is ideal, however strangely enough one still gets a bit sick of that. Guess there are not that many well paid positions around for riding about on your bike and tinkering, drinking beer, fishing etc etc....dammit!

ive worked for the same family owned garbage company for 16 years,ive seen guys come and go,its all too hard for some?bout 8 months ago the boss sold out to a big national garbage company,full time,overtime, holiday pay rostered days off with pay etc uniform with your name and boots etc,i damaged shoulder tendons and bicep couple months ago at work and had a serious operation,they had me in the office after coupla weeks then in trucks again passenger as instructor,the physio #$%*ed a tendon again so now im at home till another operation on dec 13 still getting paid,id sooner have a good shoulder though,at 59 getting a job like this would be pretty slim?besides I cant ride my bike.

I hear you Dave. I hope the op goes well. I'm rapidly developing a glass back, which is somewhat novel as I've never had back pain of any description before. Before I quit France I had notions of doing a major tour on the RC30 of the parts of the country I've not yet visited. I think I'm venturing into two chances territory with that wish.
And I only then got invited back into work today where they went to great lengths to show that they corrected all the issues I had pointed out, and asked nicely would I reconsider. Drat and double drat.

Goes to show how different people can be. I am happy to forego a bit of work and take a bike for a spin if it is a nice day.
