GL1500 cassette Player Conversion?
« on: December 22, 2017, 04:46:30 PM »
Have just bought an 88 GL1500 (will be collecting it a week today). These are fitted with a casstte player as that was the technology of the day. Has anyone done an upgrade to CD? I see, from browsing fleabay, there is an MP3 upgrade for the GL1800, would this fit the 1500? I'm not up to date with bluetooth but may have to learn if I have to go that way. Any suggestions so as i can start learning in advance?

I had Sierra Electronics upgrade my 1500 cassette to my IPod. I removed the radio / cassette and mailed it. Not difficult. Forgot the cost, but I think it was on their site. Around $100 or so...

I would think any decent car audio shop would have options. Personally, I would get something that is Bluetooth and/or satellite radio capable.

I was thinking about getting one of these doohickies

Then hook it up to an MP3 player or an old iphone.
Does the GL1500 dash have a power outlet for accessories?

Krusty, I used one of those doohickies back in the day to play my then new Sony Disc-man though my cassette deck in my Toyota truck, and it worked surprisingly well!
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Personally, I think you might be moving in the wrong direction. May I humbly suggest something like this?

I have some 8 track tapes, Carly Simon, Young Rascals, or Iron Butterfly and Led Zeppelin.

Those things work fine, my son drives my old Ford Explorer when he comes down from Sydney, and uses one of them so he can listen to music from his iphone. My GL1200 had the original radio/cassette replaced with a modern radio/CD player, but they're not very waterproof, and it was stuffed. I was going to replace it with a boat radio/CD player, but bought more bikes, and donated the old 'Wang to charity. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
