CB500 countershaft bearing
« on: December 29, 2017, 02:55:08 pm »
I'm rebuilding the transmission in my K1 CB500 and like many others, cannot find a new countershaft bearing 91002-283-003 (note the parts manual dated Jan 30 1972 has an incorrect part number showing, 91001 instead of 91002).
Does anyone know where I can source a new bearing ?
Ebay, David Silver and CMSL are all showing as unobtanium !
It's actually a CB450 part but the only way you can get a new one is to buy it as part a complete shaft and bearing set which are selling for big bucks which I don't want to spend.

a bearing supply should have it but without the groove around it?,buy a sealed one have it machined then remove the seals.

Thanks Dave - the local suppliers are closed for Xmas but I was going to try them when they open next week. I work for an engineering company with a machine shop so cutting the groove won't be an issue.
I've done a fair bit of googling the bearing and I think the problem will be the 57mm OD as it looks to be an oddball size. In the parts manual it's listed as a "special" bearing so maybe Mr Honda did one of tricks and made it an unusual size for some reason.
Cheers - JT

if yours isn't rough feeling noisey or sloppy just leave it,ive never replaced one.

ive never measured one either but 57mm seems to be what they are, miss print in lists?

Yeah, unfortunately it is a bit noisy and every now and then it has real rough spot so I need to change it.
Didn't get much for Xmas so you never know !

id try flushing it out over and again, compressed air/carb cleaner etc,its rare for these to go bad, theyre very over engineered for what they gotta suffer.
