The listing described them as “12.9 Grade Alloy Steel;Color : Black” which led me to believe that they’re just painted black. I can put some grease on them just in case though

Definitely keep those coated. I made that mistake once. Built a ninja 500 streetfighter and put the cowl (freshly painted artic white) on with allen cap black oxide......

After about a month i realized id messed up.

I shot them with some silver acrylic enamel, but that’s not all I did today!

https://youtu.be/lMmR5Ni9JwY

After I cleaned the tank and petcock out, fuel flow was restored, so all four cylinders are burning like they should.

I installed the previously mentioned baffles in my old 4-into-2s, they sound a thousand times better than the open pipes, but still a little noisy for my taste.

The oil has been changed in preparation for hitting the road.

The front brake light switch has been replaced and is now fully functional.

Installed the new tiny tach and speedometer. The new odometer can reflect the mileage accrued since the partial engine rebuild. Also the ones I had on weren’t from this bike, and they were kind of janky.

My original damaged side covers are going to hang out and collect stickers for the time being. I will replace them with some replicas once they become available.

The plan now is to get the fuel/air ratio dialed in, and ride as much as physically possible between now and winter time.

If it weren’t already after midnight and I weren’t so sleepy, I’d be on the road right now!

Nice! There are some really nice backroads around here. Just gotta keep your eyes peeled for the deer, the population has exploded in recent years. Hope you guys didn’t get caught in any of the thunderstorms the past couple days, we’ve had some real torrents!

That’s the spirit.

On an unrelated note, I’m now in search of a kickstand. I have 2, one’s a custom job that’s way too long, and the other is from a 550, so it interferes with the shift lever

Got a bounce at about 35-45mph, worst at 40. Don’t think it’s suspension related, tires are balanced, wheels seem true, gonna check on the front sprocket, it might be loose.

Anything else I should look out for?

Steering stem nut was a little loose, thought that might be a contributing factor. Snugged it up, no change

Tire pressure was low (22-23 psi), I realized I hadn’t checked it since I had the tires mounted (whoops). Brought them back up to 28 psi. I’m on the clock until 4:00, but l’ll have my 5-mile ride home to test this hypothesis. A 20-25% pressure loss could cause issues eh?

Absolutely can. I think you might be better near 32 psi. But if the bounce improves, just add some air until it vanishes.

Regarding the roads in your area, they do take a toll on tires when you push hard. Removes the chicken strips almost immediately  ;)

Is that a BMW K bike?

I do know that road, and the idea of averaging 64mph along it scares the crap out of me

So I’m still bouncing. I’m guessing that my wheels aren’t as true as I thought they were.

Besides being obnoxious, I’m guessing that this bouncing is probably not particularly safe, and it can’t be good for the tires.

Who mounted the tires...are the beads evenly seated all the way around?
If it works good, it looks good...

There’s a small Suzuki dealer about a mile from my house, I had the guys there put them on after I popped a couple tubes. They appear to be seated properly

I didn’t replace my swing arm bushings, that will be the next thing I check.

Still waiting on my bronze swing arm bushings to get here. I propped the front wheel up off the ground this evening and discovered that it is indeed not true. I attempted to straighten it out a little, and while the rim itself seems to be tracking better, the tire still has a little bit of hop. I suppose that's what I get for buying the cheapest tires I could find  :P

I may hazard a commute to work tomorrow and see if there's any improvement

Deflate the tire so it can move on the bead and be sure it is seated evenly on the bead. Did you align the dot on the tire with the rim seam? The tire has a dot that should be aligned opposite of the rim's valve.

When you reinflate do so slowly to ensure the tire is seating evenly as it can cause the tire to hop on the rim if it does not seat properly.

If the rim has a hop in it, you might be able to adjust it out truing it but if you cannot then you will need to replace it.
Tire should not have that behavior if mounted correctly.

Checked out the other front rim that I had, it’s very true. So I’ve mounted everything up onto it and I will be giving it a test run to work tomorrow. Preliminary examinations look promising

That was the trick, it rides like a dream now!

That more or less concludes the function phase of this project, aside from the quest for stoichiometry.

Congrats Scramps! Sounds like fun Cal. We are going to be seeing rain here in NE TN. Would likely be a wet ride part of the time here south of you guys.
