Do it soon before it also costs you a battery.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis

Been a little while, figured it’s time for an update.

I’ve been doing some tinkering, the bike is running really well. It seems like the bike really prefers warm weather.

I had a leaking fork that I’d been ignoring because it was a very small leak. As is to be expected, it became a much larger leak. I just got done putting everything back together after replacing the seal, the process went pretty smoothly other than the head snapping off of the drain plug while I was snugging it up. By some miraculous stroke of luck I was able to remove it with an extractor without destroying the threads.

I STILL don’t have my side covers back. The guy who’s been farting around with them showed me that they are in fact primed and ready to be painted, he’s just waiting for a chance to use the paint booth.

I’ve been riding as much as possible, and loving it.

They’re almost done! Dutch wants to buff/polish them so they look as good as the tank before he gives them back. He plans on doing it tonight, I should be able to pick them up in the morning

All right, the time has come, it’s finally all together.

It’s not perfect, and there’s a lot of things on it that could be cleaner and neater, but it’s a complete machine that I can ride.

I’ve had several people approach me while I was out and about on it before it was even done to give me compliments and tell me about the bikes like it that they used to ride. That’s a good feeling.

After everything was said and done, I spent some time riding the bike around for a few hundred miles, but it became clear after a while that I was too nervous about the possibility of wrecking it and ruining all of my hard work. I decided that it would be better served going to a new owner who could enjoy it.

And so I sold the bike, it went to a good home. Thanks for coming along with me on this journey! Maybe I’ll do it all over again with another one some day.

You built a beauty and sorry to see you let it go. I hope you got a good price for all your hard work and investment of time, money and skills.

I can understand your nervousness as it is just like owning a new car but multiplied because it is a motorcycle and even easier to wreck because of it.  Many times it is not your doing something to cause it but someone or something's else's actions that cause a wreck.

Or, simply drop me a PM with your address and I’ll put the pieces in the mail to you...
hey I’m looking for a tech housing gear for 77 CB550 K. You had said you had one available, I know it was two years ago, any chance you still have one? Thanks in advance!

You may wish to ask calj in a PM... no telling if he will see your reply unearthing an old thread. Posting a request in the parts wanted section might be a good option as well.
