Busted Seat Lock
« on: February 05, 2018, 06:16:47 pm »
The lock to my seat broke and was wondering if anyone has found a way to replace the cam inside of it (it broke into 4 pieces). The seat lock, ignition, and fork lock all run on the same key and am looking to repair the lock instead of replace it.   Looking to get everyone's thoughts. The bike is a 73 CB500 and the key/ lock number is T3796. Thanks!

i have taken mine apart and repaired it before but i forget if the part you broke is attached to the key cylinder.  if it's not and it's just a part to exchange from an unbroken unit and then you can keep the key.

Based on what I can tell they are separate. It appears there is a C clip between the two holding the cylinder in. Tough part is finding someone selling that small little cam piece. I could buy a new lock for about $20 and pull the cam out, but that seems like a waste for one little piece.

$20 is more than fair to keep your original key.  do it.
