It was sent

USPS - International Surface Airlift

from  DeBary FL   and wighed in at 1lb 7 oz per the Customs Declaration..

I was charged $16.55 US for the postage  - was I ripped off a lot or a little ??

Probably a fair deal.  Hell, it took me almost an hour to figure out the forms when I sent my pipes to a guy in Canada.  Time like that is worth money.  Bummer deal is I calculated the shipping about 9 bucks below what I shipped it out for.   :-\

Lots of options when shipping USPS to Australia, but "International Surface Airlift" is not one of them. Hope this link works as it should show the costs of sending a 1lb-7oz package. I think the cheapest would have been a "flat rate" Global Priority Envelope(large): $9.50(US)

up to Airmail Parcel Post: $20.80(US)

Thanks guys

Sean - I had the same link but could not find out how they calculated anything because that style of service had no rates that I could work out.

Paxton - well it may be worth it to this company - whom I gave a serve to last night - they quoted a total shipping charge - then when Invoiced it shows as Shipping & Handling Fee - anyway will never use them again..

problem solved I now have a manual...

Yeah, I was wondering about that myself. There's 3000 miles of land between Debary, FL and the US coastline of the Pacific Ocean. Could be that it was trucked across the states and airlifted across the ocean. I imagine a service like that would take 2-3 weeks to arrive at your step. How long did your manual take?

When shipping outside the US the rates are very odd. I have sent items to Canada and some delivery times can be weeks. If I mail inside the US I pay essentially for distancenThey treat other Countries as one place. It would cost me the same to ship to Montreal which is a few hundred miles as to Vancouver which is 3K miles.

Hi
I had a brake drum, iron, not Honda shipped from Blacktown NSW. It got here, Ohio, USA, in about three months. Which was about what the shipper guessed it would take.

I just shipped a V&H exhaust system to Finland from Massachusetts via air parcel post (about 19 lbs). Cost about 90.00. It arrived in a little over a week and that was the week before Xmas it went out. Funny thing is the USPS said the box was to large to ship surface BUT OK to ship air. ::)

Years ago, when I shipped a lift from Israel to the US, I was told that the surface considerations depended more on volume and the air considerations more on weight.

Somebody should tell that to the occasionally obese patients I have to lift into the plane...

I send stuff to Britain and the postage can be quite high for relatively light weight.
Sent a Kawasaki custom seat to UK, $25.00 surface mail, 6 weeks delivery (lot of US vendors wont ship outside country so friend has stuff shipped to me and I forward it)
In 05 I sent stuff 'home', paid over $40.00 for a couple of pounds, took a week, previous year, $25.00 took 9 weeks, :o
plus the time it waited in customs in UK. ( Christmas presents for relatives, they didn't get them until end of March ??? ??? ???)
Depends on how fast you want stuff to get where you need it.
You've paid the money, got the stuff, don't dwell on it.
