Confirm my goof.

Hey guys, purchased my first Honda CB550 ('77) a while back and finally have a little time to tear her down for the build. In doing so, I may have discovered why she was so inexpensive... based on the serial # of the engine, it appears that someone swapped in a CB500 engine at some point. I just want confirmation from you experienced folks. Pics follow:

Thats a bummer buddy, where are you located and are there any 550 motors for sale on CL?
I have a cb500 and i love my bike so you will still be a happy camper, it makes me upset if someone got over on you tho.

Look on the cylinder. Isn't the cc cast in on the front? Certainly the bottom end is from a 500. Is it possible that the cyl has been swapped or bored?

Hey Shtone, I'm in GA, US. Perusing CL as we speak, ha. I don't think it was a case of someone getting over, as I still got a great deal on the bike. I imagine the seller was just as ignorant as I was. I will get her going as-is until an engine comes along. She's in rough shape anyways so I was planning on a brat build, so not a huge deal.
