can anyone vouch for the dss clutch kit for $84?  comes with 4 oem springs, 1 oem friction plate type b and oem cover gasket.  the 6 friction disks type a are replicas.

I certainly #$%*ing can on the 550,its a few years old now and never needed adjustment since installed,ive even swapped it into a spare motor and back,its done a #$%* load of 6000 rpm plus drag launches,never slipped and nice smooth bite,if its the same parts now I don't know,i also have a complete spare kit new they were that good,both kits state the 6 plates were repos and the one large plate is genuine with genuine springs.

Put one in my 550 last year and no issues at all.

i had an issue today where in 1st gear with clutch disengaged i pressed the start button and the bike took off.  tried again and same thing.  this brings me back to yesterday at the end of my ride i couldn't down shift or up shift until a double clutch and little throttle blip.  drove it home after that without incident.  the clutch hasn't felt right for a while.  any way back to today...  i pulled the clutch cover and proceeded to adjust the clutch and noticed that after loosening the clutch adjuster screw lock nut and making my adjustments the clutch lever had worked loose from slotting onto the clutch shaft.  i couldn't tell if it was already like that from the last adjustment i made or happening just then.  as i went to turn the screw to snug and back 1/4 to 1/2 turn it really depended on the lever sitting on the shaft correctly or not.  it sort of gave me a false snug to turn back 1/4 to 1/2 if you get what i'm saying.  so i'm wondering if that's what caused the not finding a gear yesterday and the lurch today with clutch disengaged.  lever wasn't locked on shaft and was slipping.  fixed that all up and adjusted the clutch about 4 or 5 times to get rid of creeping in first when revving throttle with clutch disengaged.  rode the bike about 30 miles after that.  still get a little clanking pulling away in 1st.  maybe 4 or 5 times at many lights and stops.  i have NEVER had a slipping issue.  the clutch feels like it has almost no adjustment room.  it either has to be perfect or i'll get creeping and the bike will lurch forward when starting it in 1st with clutch lever pulled in.  maybe the springs are shot. 

i'm not averse to ordering a clutch kit.  what bothers me is that i may be missing something here and it's an adjustment issue.  oil changed last week. 

edit: it also seems that 1/4 turn is much better than 1/2 turn from snug.  which leads me to believe springs are out of spec.

sounds like it needs replacing once its a fine line between slipping or dragging.

roughen up and de-glaze those steel plates aswell with say 120 paper,they are a pressed out thing and if you look close youll see a sharp edge one side on each plate and a rounded one on the other side,orientate them the same way on install and take any obvious sharp edges off,its the thought that counts.
