Rear-view mirror mount stripped
« on: June 05, 2005, 10:03:25 AM »
My left mirror will not screw in at all.  I was thinking of using some extra JB Weld I have to cement it in there, but then I wouldn't be able adjust the mirror at all.  I guess I could replace them with bar-end mirrors.

Any other ideas?

(I found this thread http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=1401.0, but it didn't seem like there was a resolution.)

go with bar ends.  I just put black EMGO's on my bike and it looks much better.  They are rubber mounted also and don't vibrate at all.  Sorry, no pics of them yet.

Hi, sorry to hear about the stripped rear view mirror.

I ended up picking up a replacement brake lever from a mechanic in town, so I never got to try the heli coils or things like that.  Good luck!

On my 750, the left-hand mount (on the clutch lever) hole goes all the way through the bracket. If yours is the same, you should easily be able to heli-coil it and be back in business.

I got them from my cousing, he had them lying around in his garage.  Any bike shop should be able to order them  Here they are for $10 bucks

I don't think Helicoils will be a solution for the following reason: the original mirror mounting and lever thread are started in such a way that, once the mirror mounting is screwed to the end, the mirror stays in place. If you don't have that into account, it can happen that your mirror mounting ends facing you, or the front wheel, or the other mirror. I don't know if I've explained myself...

Then I will have to check mine, but I remember there was a nut-shaped profile in the stem but I thought it was for thightening purposes. My Suzuki GZ250 have the lock nut, but I thought the Honda didn't...

When I bought my bike we removed the mirrors because they hit in the van where we hauled it. When at home I put them back, and never removed them again...

never saw the Napoleons mirrors until right now after a web search.  They both look the same.  I guess its personal choice.  the naps are around 33 bucks,  the emgo's are 10.
