A better brake bleed nut please
« on: May 26, 2018, 04:09:06 PM »
Are there really no better brake bleeder nuts on the market?

Something that has dogged me when bleeding brakes - no matter what, car or bike.  The bleed screw is just not designed well.  You have to get an air-tight seal on a surface that isn't particularly well suited for it.  The flare is too close to the body for the tubing to hold tightly.  The tubing itself is usually so frickin' stiff that it works itself loose trying to curl back up, the fluid itself degrades just about everything it touches.

I just can't believe a better system hasn't been invented yet - like a smaller version of the connector used for air line.  you know - air tight, snug, foolproof.

I know there are ball valve versions of bleed screws - and they are better, except for the fluid dribbling down onto everything because the pvc tubing fell off curling back up

Many kinds of clear tubing, pick a flexible one that fits tightly,  lube to get it on or spread with needle nose..
The fact they still make them like this , points to it not being a problem... for the most part..

Honestly, if they would just got rid of the flare on the end of the bleed screw it would be infinitely better.  It's really the flare that screws everything up, a nice straight connector would be a ton more secure and much easier to clamp onto.

I use the "SPEED BLEEDERS", the check valve type you mentioned, and they're fast and easy to use.  No vacuum things needed, and it's fast to do.  Also, get yourself some TYGON (brand) tubing at your local lawn equipment repair shop and use that instead of some kind of stiff rubber of vinyl. TYGON is used for fuel lines and that stuff is almost as resilient as silicone tubing.  "Try it, you'll like it".  You can also opt to get the Speed Bleeders bag for the old fluid to drain into, it comes with tubing attached.
