It's great! My first bike was 305, a CB77, the next a street scrambler, CL77. Still have a soft spot for those bikes even after an X6 Hustler blew me away.

Did I tell you about a guy that drag raced one over here, ran 9.8 @ 143 mph as a 250 and 9.02 @ close to 150 mph as a 350. :o :o

If you google Mick Hand 250 Honda drag bike you will find a little on him, no good pics though.

       Hey Sam, 

                 If you're talking about that 1st one being a bit girlie, I never would have done one up quite like THAT one. The frame and that headlight aren't me and that seat was a little more odd looking. I did kinda like the way the forks were raked out there a bit and, that's something cause I don't really have a thing for choppers though. You told me something about a 305 but I don't remember if it was that one  or not. I will check out that 250 Honda Drag Bike though. Yeah, I've kinda been into Super Hawks ever since I saw my 1st one back in about 62' or 63'. It was a red and silver one. I wanted one so bad and couldn't afford one. Finally got me a 66' CB72 "Little Brother" Super Hawk in 68' for about $250 in Japan (while in the Air Force). The yen to dollar conversion at that time was: 360= $1 The bike was nice and it was black & silver. I repainted it like a Dodge Royal Blue (metallic), had the side covers (air cleaner) chromed, added megaphones, changed the headlight and gauges to the CB350 units and I had one of those seats that kinda molded to the gas tank, dropped slowly down toward the seat base and turned up at the back of the seat. I'll post a link to a picture of one with that seat. The seat was quite an item, as I found out just a bit back. Glad those pictures are being enjoyed. :D

Okay, here's a link to a CB77 Super Hawk with the optional seat that I was talking about. Picture this bike with Blue fenders & gas tank, chrome air cleaner side covers, footpegs moved to the passenger position, modified gear shift (1st gear up, the rest down) CB350 gauges and headlight and megaphones about the same length as these mufflers and you'll basically have my CB72 Hawk. Except, my motor had the CP77 (305) Head complete with cam, rockers & carbs. The head was ported and polished and the cam was timed one tooth forward and the ignition timed accordingly. It also had the standard handlebars  instead of the flat bars. I wish I could get my pc to cooperate so that I could post the picture instead of a link. ::) I also wish I had a good picture that showed how it looked after the mods.

I couldn't find the seat on there, but I know the one you were on about, it was part of the race kit.

            Yeah, it was a cool seat. I got it from the Honda dealer in Misawa, Japan. I wish I'd have known about the other stuff, maybe he had that also. I thought the seat should have had a cone piece on the back of it, but it was still a cool seat to ride on. I tried a set of clip ons and they just didn't work for me and it wasn't age, I was only 20yrs old at the time. That bike was the main thing that kept me going while I spent 2yrs in Japan and nearly half of that time in Korea. I sure was happy to get back to the states, I can tell ya. The only bad thing was, when I was notified that I was coming back stateside, I didn't have time to get my bike disassembled to get it all home and the only things that made it home were the front fender, front wheel & clip ons (that I didn't like anyway) I was totally sick about that. A so called buddy was going to take care the rest of it for me, and he DIDN'T!  >:( :( Sometimes life just STINKS!   Now, I've got a very long term project of a 63' CB77 with a CA77 motor and some parts missing. I'm looking to doing a number with the trans that Mark (HondaMan) let me in on, Browse ebay and try to gather the necessary parts to convert the motor to a CB motor, The front fender is missing and they aren't cheap and so I do have a CB160 front fender which will kinda give it that Road Racer look and a set of megaphones along with a cafe style seat should give me the look I want. Any ideas that you'd like to suggest?

A lot of differences in the two motors Bill, makes me wonder if it would be worth it.

Also I think the CB160 front fender may be to slim, I think that the 160 front tyre was 2.25 or 2.50.

Not sure what size the CB77 was, I will look it up when I get home.

             carb. On the front fender, it seems like I had read somewhere that a fellow used a CB160
             fender to give it a similar look of the old period road racers. I happen to have a pair of Cb160
             fenders, so I thought I'd check out the front one to see if it was feasible or not. It does
             already have the right side engine cover, with the forward kick starter. I've seen CB77
             motors on ebay but, they either went for too much or were far away so that the freight
             cost would eat me up. I'm still looking though and haven't picked up on any parts yet. If I
             do happen upon a CB77 motor, that I can get, I'll jump on it. The CB & the CL motor seem
             the same, as far as appearances go (except for the kick starter and no electric starter) are
             the internals pretty much the same? The CL motor would have to be a step up from the CA
             motor though. What are your thoughts Sam? I'm hoping that Mark (HondaMan) will kick in

 Was the first 'real' bike I fell off.
 TLS front brake, on grass, not the best stop in the world.

Well I have a CA77 that I restored and rode around Lake Superior last summer.



Also have a CB77 basketcase with 2 motors. Also have a pair of CL77's that will be a project some time soon.



CB and CL motor are pretty much the same except for the starter and the top motor mount. The CL has a full frame and the CB the engine hangs.

Quite a few parts would be needed to convert the CA motor to a CB motor. For one the CA motor is a 360 crank and the CB and CL are a 180 crank. In the CA both pistons move up and down at the same time. So it has a different cam, one set of points, etc. Much, much easier to start with a CB motor.

My plan is to build up something like this.

         Hey Dave, Nice example of a CB77. My 66' CB72 looked just like that one except for the crashbars and the handlebars. Mine had raised bars and no crashbars.

Then, if it looks like I need to, I'll weld the old holes up and grind them smooth. This is going to be a long term project so, time doesn't mean too much. I just keep hoping that I'll come across a deal, like I've heard of others doing. ::) I'll keep you posted, if you like.
