The TR6 remains my favorite of the late 60's British cars, even over the E-Type Jag. For me the Jag is actually 3rd behind the Austin Healy 3000 (#1) and the MGB #2. But everyone I know that owns both an MGB and TR6 prefers their MG.

I'll get back to it soon.

**edit, well that 1st sentence doesn't make any sense at all: TR6, 3000, MGB, E-Type

Dave, given the condition of the car, it may be best to do it right and lasting. You will not get one like it again.

I don't have an old car anymore, but before my sohc4 time I did have this '74 VW Bus that I drove around the country for seven years.  This is a picture of my wife and I the Summer we first got together 18 years ago.

Good eye!  I worked for Black Rock City DPW '99 through '01.  This picture was taken in September of 2000, during clean-up.

How was it?  Well... How much time do you have, because I've got some stories. ;)

I worked there pre, during and after the burn for three Summers.  We built it, burned it and cleaned it up.  I don't remember the exact numbers, but I think it was around 20,000 at that time.  Short of having kids, it was the best and hardest time of my life.

Those VW Buses were the best!  I never had the pleasure of owning one but rode in many.

I lived in a rich community as a teen. One guy I knew had an Ampicar.  He loved to act like he was out of control around lakes and just drive it into the water. People would freak out. The Cops took a dim view of that. It was the fastest automobile in the water and one of the slowest on land.

The US Coast guard required boat navigation lights and a flag pole.

My buddy just bought this '56 Ford F-100 for his collection.

I found it for him in California and handled the logistics of getting it to TX.  I had it at my house for a week for "testing"!  Has a 302 V8 Windsor motor.

My buddy related this to me yesterday.
Around 1966 in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, the got a few dealer of body shop owners together, to look at Amphicars... A demo day . He clearly remembers them being driven in and out of the river, there was 8 or 10 of them  he and his father gotvto drive one but not in the water.
The offer  was out for them to be dealers but they did not accept.

I suspect their origins resemble the WW2 Schwimwagen..

The closest one is my 40 chevy. I got a real race car since then and don't flog it much anymore. The camaro had a small blower, I would have beat him if my motor mounts hadn't broken on the 1-2 shift. The yellow 32 plymouth had a 383 magnum engine with a 4 speed and the red 33 ford had a 454 crate motor/th400 and raced all day with the AC on. leaking condensate too.

Looks a lot like a chevelle knock off. Funny that the windshield wipers are set up for left hand drive car.

You sure it isn't a Chevelle is a knock off of the Holden.
They always made some nice looking cars back in the day. The Ford Falcons of Australia were quite nice, 90 maybe?

Drag racers understand torque and reaction times quite well. A motor with a strong torque curve is also fun in curvy mountain roads too.  Same as a bike that has a nice bottom end. The plastic maggot (cx500) is not too shabby off the line, walking away from plenty of Harleys that were trying.

Applying a veneer to your dash will face the warping and buckling issues due to being in a very hot environment. A wrap when applied by a professional or experienced  person is in my opinion going to be your best solution to the problem and it will look good for a long time. It will handle the heat as well.

David,   I had a dash wrap installed on my El Camino that did not work out all that well.  Of course, all the work done didn't work out that well.  Anyone want to but an El Camino cheap?....Larry   I am serious about that FWTW

While I can't add anything more, than has already been offered, I have my old 1969 Plymouth GTX, That I got, back in the Fall of 2009. Was said to be a Show Car & Restoration, but the previous owner's definition of those 2 terms, are a lot different from mine and most anyone else's. Still glad I picked up on it though. Been working on it, off and on, over the years. Enjoy getting out in it. A lot of people have no idea what it is though. But, I realize their interests are elsewhere.   ;) Got some really nice rides posted here too.

Thank you, Dave. Couple of reasons that this one means a lot to me.

You see, my 1st Wife and I met, because she had a road runner ('69 hdtp)
and so did I. Back in the day, road runner owners used to "Beep Beep" at
each other (her's was gold, with a white painted top and mine was also
a '69, but a coupe and had the "flip out" rear side windows and was blue
with a black vinyl top). I was so struck by her, that after we went our         seperate ways, I realized I didn't get her name, phone number or anything.

so, I searched Little Rock, Each afternoon, until about 1:00AM, for a month and finally found her. Got her info & followed her home. we dated every evening, got married 3 months later and after 38 1/2 yrs, she passed away on the morning of July 1, 2009. I told my Daughter I was going to try to get a road runner (either a coupe like mine & paint it like hers or a hdtp like hers & paint it like mine), but ended up getting this GTX (hdtp, like hers, Hood stripes like mine 7 a 4-spd, like my '66 Charger I traded off for the road runner had. So This one Was Dedicated to her, complete with a plate that I had made & put on the front. my Wife knows the story & has no issues with the plate. So, that's it.

Enjoyed seeing the others posted and I am hoping others will be posting up as well.

We should all be so lucky as you, Bill to live a life filled with love from a special partner. May your beloved rest in eternal peace-

Thank you, Cal. I know a lot of people haven't had it like I did and I will always be grateful for those years. Thing is, I knew, the first time I saw her, that she was the one and my Mother didn't think we would make it, because of the way we met and because I first met her in Sept of 1970, found her again in Oct. asked her to Marry me in Dec & Tied The Knot in Jan 1971. Then, losing her, was like having 1/2 of myself, ripped away. Thank you, for your comments, Cal This place is like a large Family and the support I got from them, was largely responsible for My survival.  And, I truly feel for those who have had it rough, marriage wise.  ;)

+1  GTX are great cars.

I had a '72 Roadrunner many years ago, wasnt the best car I had [over heated and trans issues] but sure was a lot of fun!  And yes, the horn sounded "Beep Beep"!!

Not mine, but it looked like this...

[and my girlfriend at the time had big boobies too!]

Thank you, Stev-o, Kinda partial to road runners myself, as I am sure you can tell. Bought my Wife a New 1976 Volare' road runner, back in the day. Swapped off my '73 VW Thing for it and she passed her '69 road runner over to me (my '69 was already gone, due to cost of living and jobs, at the time, so, with mine having the most miles, it was the first to go.). By then though, I had gotten a civil service mechanic job work on Army Reserve equipment. And Sorry, but I hope to hang onto the GTX & though I am 71 now, I still get out and work and drive the GTX (and it doesn't have power steering & is a basic Model, w/ that 440 , 4 Speed & Sure Grip Rear (BUT, The previous owner, for reasons unknown to me, swapped out the Dana 60, for an 8 3/4 differential. It still "Sails' though.
