Topic: Anyone know about V65 Sabres?

I got a line on a really nice V65 Sabre for $1200.  44k miles seems kind of high to me but it looks and runs good.  I know next to nothing about these bikes but I like this one.  I'm just wondering if these bikes have well known problems.  Is this a model I should steer clear of?  I'm thinking of throwing hard bags and a fairing on it and using it as my daily driver.  So what do you guys think?

I know the V45s, and presumably V65s had premature cam wear problems due to insufficient lubrication and Honda came up with a fix for it that improved lubrication but still wasn't perfect. I know maintenance is a #$%* on these but I wouldn't buy one until I eyeballed the cams personally.

The V65s (Sabre/Magna)  also had the same cam issues as the V45s (Interceptor/VFR). I too would advise taking a look at the cams on that bike. My V45 is low enough milage im sure that with proper maintence and regular oil changes it will be fine. Either way these V4 bikes are a blast to ride. There is almost Zero Vibration to them at all. And the powerband is unreal one moment you are at cruising speed..next you are doing triple digits

if there are none of the aforemetioned mechanical problems, it would be a great commuter bike, but the price seems a tad high.

once the engine wears out. it is too expesive (parts, labor) to warrant re-building.  I'd look into a 1200cc golwing for reliability.

Ya, I decided to pass on that one but I ran into another last night.  Good shape, runs great, bad tires.  $700.  I think I'm going to jump on this one.  I'd rather have a CB1100F but I think this will do for awhile.  I am a little concerned about the cam issues though.

A buddy of mine bought a well looked after '83 Magna a few years ago but got me to check it out for him first. The owner verified that the lubrication mod had been done and the bike hasn't had any problems. They're solid if they've been looked after.

I owned one for about a year in the early 90's and have regretted selling it ever since. It was one of the fastest bikes I ever owned. Althought it was not the best for the twisties. it certainly made up for any losses in the straight aways. I was going to change the drive shaft to chain to stop the rising shafts are know for. The person who purchased it was going to convert it to a dragster. I would pay $1,200 all day long for a good V65 Sabre. Terrific V4 engine. Ride with a smile. Capt K

Very cool looking bike indeed!  I think the V65 Sabre was one of (if not THE) fastest production bike untill the V-max came out in '85.

This past summer, I got my ass handed to me by a Sabre while on my little 550k.
