I replaced the front fork seals on my 78 CB750a and now the ride seems much more stiff that before. I realize it will be now that there are no leaks however its almost as if the whole front end hops. I measured fluid - but it came almost all the way to the top of each fork tube. Any thoughts here? Maybe drain some fluid?

It should definitely not come to the top of each fork tube.

The '76-'78 Honda CB750A shop manual says:
Use only ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid)
145-155cc (4.9-5.2oz) after draining
155-165cc (5.2-5.6oz) after disassembly

It should definitely not come to the top of each fork tube.

I think there's better fork oil choices since the 70's.  Perhaps the OP measured without fully extending the front end ( that's a springs out measurement right?). & perhaps his oil selection was heavy or there's some other stiction problem to be checked with wheel and springs removed.
