Cb550F fuel tank options

Hello all, new to the forum. Excuse me if I ask anything dumb.. I’m just getting into the motorcycle world. I had a question about replacing my bulky cb550f tank with something a little cleaner for a more cafe look. It’s a ‘76 and I don’t have a seat yet. I will be switching to clip-on’s. Anyone know of a direct fit or a something that takes a small fab? Thanks in advance!

Welcome.

If you aren't sticking with the 550F seat a 500/550K tank will go right on. 500T tanks are popular

Your question is a little hard to answer because we don't know what café means to you. I would recommend looking at the Project Board and Bike of the Month threads. Tons of beautiful café threads there with details on what tanks were used and how they were modified.

The Project Board also has a thread called Inspiration Bikes with hundreds of pictures that can provide, well, inspiration for you.

Welcome Noah....  +1 the CB500 & early CB550 tanks are a direct fit and nice looking.

Thanks for the quick responses! The CB500 tank looks rad. Pretty much exactly what I want. I did a quick search. How does this look?

Personally, I'd prefer to have an original tank that hasnt had the need to be cut open repaired and sealed.  Obviously, I dont know that seller or the quality of his work.
If you are not in a huge hurry, post a thread in the Parts Wanted section, one of us prolly has a spare.

I have 2 550/500 tanks available. One is bare metal having been chemically dipped to remove all paint and crappy liners. Metal is perfect.

The other is stock, super clean interior, no rust, no leaks. The one with paint is a better buy if you are planning a custom since you can have it sanded and painted. I want a king’s ransom for the other as I spent 2 years looking for a truly perfect metal one.

Hey Cal...if I remember correctly, one got damaged in your garage collapse.  Was the bare metal one to replace it for Ron?

Interested in the painted one, I have a 500 & 550 projects coming up.

Yep, the bare I finally found after a global search. I've tried a few times to reach Ron to send it on to him, but he's gone MIA  :'(
