Actually I'd rather not see it again and would rather the news stop playing it. It was one thing when they thought he was just injured but when they confirmed he died they shouldn't play it anymore.

When a guy hits a solid object at 140 km/h with a thin layer of clothing and only a helmet to protect him it is pretty obvious who won. Sorta reminds me of another activity.

Out of respect to the family and friends they should stop playing it. How would you feel if you were another luger supposed to compete tomorrow or one of his team mates and every time you turned on the news you had to re live it?!?!?

Not a shot at you Kit but rather at the media for what they are doing....I know it is big news up here but to merely relay the story is enough with out showing it.

oh btw, the vid on that huffington post link where was I first saw it and isn't as bad as the one on TV which is much clearer and longer....

you know that was my initial feeling, too. "WTF is wrong with people that they have to actually show the video of the man's death?!"

but if the media is putting it everywhere then I feel morally absolved of wrongdoing.
The need to "be there" and "see it" sometimes makes the media do questionable things, but that's nothing new... the movie "His Girl Friday" came out in 1940 with similar conclusions as to the media's morality.

Kit, that's why I had no problem with you posting a link. If it was an embedded video I would have had a problem with it.

Might seem strange but I am sort of ok with people seeing it if they seek it out but to broadcast it on a news broadcast with no warning is another. Another difference between our cultures is our news tends to be reported differently up here. The American news tends to be far more graphic and presumably due to stronger competition tends to try to one up eachother with content . It's hard to describe unless you have seen our News to compare it to. Far less fear mongering and general shift in point of view in how it is reported. But, in this case I was shocked they would continue to play it. I could see when it was first shown when they didn't know he was dead but...
