Vintage CB750 shocks *product warning?*
« on: September 25, 2018, 09:01:55 PM »
So its been awhile since I have posted. I finally got around to buying some proper length shocks. I bought the Vintage CB750 - Shock Absorber Set ~ Stock Design ~ CB750K 1972-76" part number #73-1055

Wanted to know if anyone else has bought these and or used them. They generally look decent except for the upper eye, the weld looks very poor and on the backside there is no evidence of any sort of penetration. this concerns me, I really don't need a shock failure which could cause an accident or at least a messed up bike.

Im also not very happy about the bait and switch VintageCB750 has done with there website photo's and product, these may get sent back!!

Here is the stock photo from the site, note the nice cast aluminum eye

Here is what I received,

Those look cheap.
I have a set I ordered a year ago for my K2 build. Not that cheap as others I have seen. Look OK, 5 pos spring adjuster.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB-750-Four-K2-K6-Stosdampfer-Set-Repro-Federbeine-rear-chushion-shocks/291937869496?hash=item43f8da5eb8:g:WjsAAOSwMVdYIte5

They have a cheaper model, but it look cheaper at the top too.

If they are not like the picture and a cheaper substitute I would send them back.

I bought repro shocks from 4 into 1 for a K1. They look very good and function well.

These look awful.  That weld will not hold for long.  Let this be a lesson.  I bought  (and probably hundreds of others) a cam chain tesnioner from these guys which reportedly  disintegrates inside the engine.  That would lead to blocking the oil lines and causing catastrophic engine seizure which eventually leads to a lock up of the rear tire and possible death.  I had to remove the newly rebuilt engine to get this part out.  Incredible waste of time and money.  I'm disappointment that  a Canadian company would sell sub par parts.

Those shocks are a chocking safety issue. Strange that the seller does not see the risk.

Same story here. I was lucky in that I had not yet installed the engine when I received the letter from Vintage CB750 about the junk parts.  The crappy shocks they sold have made me leery of this outfit.

Ok so I have decided that this is indeed a issue and that im not comfortable putting them into service. I just sent VintageCB750 an email regarding it so i will see how they respond or react to it and will post the results

I almost got caught with the cam chain tensioner issue, I also had an issue with there spoke kits, where i was snaping spokes, I got so frustrated with the issue and a set of lesters came up at the right time so that sorta resolved itself by total elimination, I still have a set of mint polished hub, new rim wheels that are NFG until re-spoked.

Just got a set very similar to yours but in black. The upper eyes are cold rolled steel. Got them from Dime City Cycle in Tampa, Fl. These folks rock!!!! Very fast service, too. I'd send that stuff back where they came from.

The seller has made a mistake if the part look different than the photo they use.
Here a completely different model of shocks. They show $200 model but deliver a $100 model. This means that the seller cannot be trusted at all for any future buys if they will not take their responsibility of full refund and arrange the return. There are others out there.

Sure the shocks have looked like this for many years? I have not seen any, but not looked that much for them either.

Poor "canned" response from VintageCB750. No doubt a bait and switch picture posting. They owe you a total refund! Please post their name in the "Reviews" section of this board so others know of their tactics.

Chris,

If they're not going to pay for return shipping then don't send them back.  Call your bank and have them do a charge-back for sending the incorrect item.  If vintageCB750 wants them back they need to send you a postage paid label, not expect you to foot the bill for their incompetence.

Agreed -- what you ordered is not what you received.

This is one important way this forum can help and encourage us to make wrongs to rights. Important to get what we have seen before ordering.
PayPal is good in this kind of situations. eBay too that help to get money back when needed.
