Electrical guru - take a look pretty please
« on: November 09, 2018, 04:48:10 PM »
I have an XR600R that I’m just about finished with.  I want to add a separate DC circuit to run LED lighting - headlight, tail, turn signals and a horn.  Usually, when the XR guys do this, they get a new rewound stator to put out more power.  They typically have a separate output for lighting.  I want to use my stock one.  It supposedly puts put 45-55 watts.  The original stock headlight was 35 watt.  I’m putting a Baja design LED unit in there that is only 26 watt.  Doesn’t sound like much, but it’s brighter than stock.

So, I plan on replacing the stock AC reg with a combo rec/reg unit to get the DC power for my LED lighting.

Does my diagram look like it would work?  Do you think I’d have to isolate/float the ground from either the AC or DC side?   Am I over thinking this?

Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.
