Found the bike of my youth
« on: November 14, 2018, 05:39:46 PM »
I have a small handful of vintage Japanese bikes, but they are predominately Yamaha 2 strokes with the gratuitous Suzuki TS185 thrown in for good measure.  I was talking with my nephew the other day and told him to be on the lookout for me a turn key Suzuki GT550.  Within a few minutes he sent me a Craigslist ad for a '73 Honda CB350F.  Imagine my surprise when I opened the page and there was a 350Four *exactly* like the bike I had through college and my wife and I rode on dates; down to the exact same luggage rack and padded backrest.  The bike still has the original OEM exhaust! 8)  As luck would have it, the bike was in Ohio but only 5 miles from my brother's house.  A phone call later and he was off to look over the little Honda.  I was able to talk to the seller and my brother sent several photos and videos of the bike and a deal was made that day.  The bike is temporarily in storage in my brother's garage and will be delivered to me this coming Monday.  It isn't perfect, but it's a nice survivor and I'd say by the pictures a solid 8 out of 10.  Looks like the worst problem is the dreaded head gasket leak on the right side but I'm hoping (in vain, i'm sure) that some frequent 45-60 minute rides will help swell those dastardly O-rings back so that I'm back to a unsightly weep.

Looking forward to getting this Honda on the road and doing some 2 ship with the trusty RD400 ;)

Welcome aboard (from Ontario)
This is “the place” to be if you have soft corner for these amazing bikes. Share photos and videos your brother sent you.

All the best

Welcome from NE MN,

How about a throw back picture of the original bike and a picture of the new one.  Hopefully you have access to a scanner for the old picture.

Thanks,

-MD

Sadly there are no surviving pictures of the original 350F.  However I will try to upload a couple vids and pics of the *new* bike.  I'm excited to have it get here.
