 Re petcock, there may have been room to shorten the threaded part, tap it to 1/4 NPT,and use a Pingel petcock.

Thanks! Yeah but moving it was actually cheaper. $80 all in.

Warmed up enough today to go for the first ride of the year. Was going great untill the front brake went completely soft. Had the engine and rear break 30 miles home...seriously considering spring for a caliper and rotor upgrade from Beringer brakes.

  I love the look of your tasteful mods.  The 550F side covers look much better than the bulbous K series units.  Do they simply plug into the receiver holes or is modification required?
  Your remote filter arrangement caught my eye also.  Do you have any comments on what was required to do this mod and why you chose to go this route?

Thank you! The goal was to make it look like a stock bike. the F side covers require one of the brackets (cant remember if it was left of right side) to be moved about an inch. Sounds easy, but had to move it twice because unless it's dead nuts on, it the side cover will pop off under wind load. I didn't do the oil filter mod. When i bought the engine it was already done. It  requires an oil cooler adapter (available from cycle exchange and others), fab of oil lines, and a bracket to hold the spin on filter. Also require electric starter to be removed to create a space for the filter. Its not something I would take on unless your exhaust doesn't allow for easy changing of the stock oil filter, which was the case with my bike.

Been a while.

So I decided to replace my caliper and brake line. The old line kept leaking at the caliper banjo bolt interface. Previously given the recess in the caliper I had used 2 crush washers to make up the space between the banjo/brake line fitting and the caliper body, and cut down a banjo bolt to fit in (they are too long off the shelf)...obviously this didn't work, hence the leak, and wonderfully exciting loss of front brake.

The Caliper had been rebuilt more than a few times, so figured the easiest route to go would be to purchase a new caliper form 4 into1 and a new brake line kit... plug and play, so far so good...

Put the caliper together, did a loose hookup on the brake lines and put it on the bike to check fitment.

As you can see, the brake line going directly into the caliper (no banjo) rubs the tire.

How are other people getting this to work?

yes, that's an option, but with my current stainless fender, I don't have the clearance to run between the fender and the fork leg.

I know people run lines directly to the caliper, so there must be a secret sauce here to get it to work. Here is my previous set up, with the 30 degree fitting to redirect the line. Again the issue was the banjo, and getting a seal to the caliper.

Problem is the caliper is equipped with a flare fitting insert for a hard line bubble flare. You can remove to result in a squared bottom hole. Even then you need an angled fitting to direct the line from the caliper and tire. Won't work with your current caliper and hose. Why can't you fit a hard line?

fender doesn't have the indent at the stay that the stock fender does, so there isnt the clearance between for the hardline to go between the fender and the fork leg.

Yeah i see what you mean regarding the caliper design. let me look at my different fittings and report back. I have the fitting to angle it away from the tire... but it doesn't seat into the caliper because of (A) routed out recess at the caliper/brake line interface (B) stock banjo bolts being too damn long (and from your note, not playing nice with the caliper flair fitting insert).

Okay, after further investigation (and RAF122S's explanation) I totally understand why be banjo angled fitting I previously use didn't work. The the brake line i have has the a fitting that mimics the hard-line interface at the the caliper. Gonna try to mount it again by rerouting the line and see it I can get it go bend away from the tire. Also will fish out an old hard line to see if i can jimmy in between the fender and the forks.

I guess, my question is to any of you guys NOT running the hard-line... how did you get this all to jive? Did you not have the tire rubbing issue?

So I think I got this working. I tried the hard line, but i would have had to seriously bend it (a bit scary) to get it work. I was able to snake the brake line between the fender and the fork leg. It puts a pretty big 90 in the line right above the caliper, but seems to work... Thinking I will fashion some sort of heavy wire hanger connected to the fender stay to keep it securely in place.

Once I bleed it (tomorrow), Ill report back. I'm a shade tree mechanic, and I ran out of shade for today.

I have done many Banjo fitting mods for these old style flair fitting style calipers and could help with yours if you decide to go that route.

 I even make a Twin disc kit with updated components, if you would like to go all out.

I forgot to mention, you can screw a drywall screw into the insert seat at bottom of caliper and then pull the insert out with some vice grips working it back and forth a bit while pulling.
That bend in the hose isn't so scary...
You could take some stainless mechanics wire and wrap the hose with it be certain to secure the end of the wire coil away from the hose's skin. Coil it around the hose and then it can be formed a little bit to help shape the hose. Depending upon how it is wound it could even provide protection for the hose from the tire if it were to rub against the sidewall.

Have seen pictures of sport biles with no front fender or bikes that are cafe or tweaked rip out the lines when a cross over line or brake hose when the tire catches it. Fenders and brake hose grommets/stays are there for a reason.

So far so good with the current solution. I have someone very cleaver working on getting a brembo gold to work on the stock fork and  wheel with a 320 ducati snowflake. Fingers crossed. It's a tight fit. I have tried to contact you previously about getting parts, but never got a reply...still interested in the hydro clutch setup. Please DM.

going to see if I can find a single hose that connects to the hard line that goes into the caliper.
