It would be interesting to ride the 750 there (and back).  I'll keep an eye on this.

Just saw this thread today!  Glad you posted a link in the general thread.  Dash's engine is back after a rebuild by Hondaman (that reunion you organized in 2017 beat the hell out of poor Dash--7,500+ miles  ;D)  Now i have to put him back together and ride.
I am definitely interested and their are others who don't like to camp Frank--or sleep in a ditch by the side of the road--or repair a carburetor under a pine tree--or...

Lisa,

With you in mind I did some looking around to see if I could find a place like the campground in Dolores. Unfortunately central Ohio isn't the camping paradise that the Colorado mountains are, so I didn't find anything.

I think this event will have to involve a number of members setting up camp together in the on-site campground that we can use as a central meeting point, and then others staying at hotels in the area. I don't see a practical way of having all participants stay in the same place.

Ok Mark, you have given me some more motivation.  I haven't mentioned it on the forum, but last July the faithful old 750 and I were hit by a pickup truck.  The only real damage to the bike (that I know of so far) is to the alternator case where it slid down the road after impact.  My left leg was pinned between the truck bumper and the engine and my left foot was nearly severed.  So it has been an interesting few months.  I still have a little work to do on myself and the bike but we will both be on the road again.  (Upright and on the wheels, hopefully not the other way. ;))

Oh my gosh, Greg, I am so glad you are okay. That could have been so much worse.  If your healing goes as planned and if you are truly looking to go let me know--we can meet up for some of that trip (I am still not 100% in but I have not ruled it out altogether).

Greg, have you had a chance to check the stator for any damage yet? I can mail you the cover on Monday if you PM me your address.

Thanks Frank, I'm getting there slow but sure. It has been 10 weeks since I was allowed to start weight bearing, ditched the crutches for good a little over a month ago, and now only use a cane for longer distances or when I get tired. (Which happens very easily.) Still have a nice limp. ;D

Thanks Lisa.  That would be fun, Dash and the old 750 meeting up again.  Let's see what happens.

Dang!
Glad you are ok!

Thanks, all things considered I was pretty lucky.  Of course if I was really lucky, it wouldn't have happened. ;)

Scott, I may get around to taking the cover off this weekend and will let you know what I find.  I still think it will be OK.  I greatly appreciate the offer.

Wow Greg I had not heard you had the accident. That is awful! I am glad you are healing up well as can be expected.

2k miles is a long way to ride...or the 7500+ of Mooshie's adventure... Must have a comfortable seat...

Either my new Suzuki or my 78 CX500 will plan to be at MidOhio VMDs. Need to book my reservations this week. Just too much to do on the 550 to have it there. Motor rebuild I do not wish to rush.

I plan to stay in Columbus and ride up each day...I could camp but I do not want to risk camping if rain could be in the picture as it is no fun camping in the rain.
If it is rainy then an hour ride each morning and night in rainy conditions...

Just have to pray the rain stays away...

I'm on the fence as to bringing a small borrowed trailer with my K0's, riding a replaceable grade bike, and motel or tent camping or bringing a bunch of stuff in a 28' trailer. I read I can't get a campground spot without a proper camper trailer or motorhome with plumbing.
Since I've never been there I have no idea how much room there is and where it is or where any 750 guys may congregate. At any rate I'm going.

I was just thinking about this.   I also am not familiar with navigating the event and whats possible.  In an ideal world it would be awesome if we could have a tent and or designated meeting area for us all to hang out and even park bikes.

Does anyone who is familiar with the event have thoughts on this?

yep, It is a huge event mostly consisting of a world renowned swap meet and AMA sanctioned vintage road racing...not really sure if much of a bike show is included or even if spectator bikes can be parked anywhere other than the parking lot.  It is such a large event that folks are going to have great difficulty finding each other without some very tight organization, especially folks who mostly have never met each other in real life.  In my opinion, just about the least ideal location for a friendly get together of sohc4 enthusiasts...
If it works good, it looks good...

I don't know anything about it for starters. If we were to have a common area would it be possible to have a group swap meet area? I have a bunch of stuff I could load up.

Jerry found me ;D ;D

I have been to VMD more than a dozen times.......including last year.  Camping allows most anything but needs to be reserved ASAP as last year all regular spots were sold out. The swap meet is huge and busy. Plan to visit the VJMC booths in the swap area and in the infield. Visiting the racer-pit area is limited due to the crowd.

Honda will be the featured mark and will have a large tent plus additional display space for all CB750 SOHC and a few select other models. I plan to have my Classic Bonneville Racer on display (maybe a start-up) and will be staying in my van/trailer combo parked in the infield.........over the bridge and near the vendor-display and bike-show tents. My habit is to get to know the night-security staff so they are aware of my presence. This year I plan to have a friend along with 2 or more CB750s for sale.

Besides the various on-site race events, the Saturday evening half-mile flat-track races are a nice 20-mile ride away with very good attendance.  Plan on Friday to get to know the place.......Saturday to enjoy the crowds and bike-show......and Sunday to catch the left-over bargains. BTW.......no mosquitoes  ;)  The campground is known to have late-night parties.........the infield is generally quiet by 10-PM and also houses the food vendors. I plan to drive to Mansfield/Lexington late on the 4th and set-up on Friday AM. Still pending is a possible 40-minute presentation about Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials or my bike trip to Prudoe Bay (Arctic Ocean) on the Haul Road in Alaska.

The organizers frown upon selling stuff outside the swap meet. That doesn't mean you won't see bikes with a "For Sale" sign on them all over the place. Parts, different story.
On the outside of turn 13, the "Carousel" is a pole barn, called the "Honda Pavillon". The ICOA (CBX club) usually has that reserved. This year, however, there is a common activity in an infield tent with the VJMC, celebrating 40yrs CBX and 50 years CB750SOHC, so they do not have it. Usually, there is nothing else going on in there. It can make a nice spot to meet, there is plenty of seating space and it can also provide shelter from the usual "day of rain" during the event. There is a bike show, normally on Saturday.
Be careful to bring a non-street legal pit bike to ride around on. You will see a few anyway, but technically, it is not allowed. All bikes operated on the premises must be registered and insured for liability reasons. The cops have been known to clamp down ever so often. Especially, when the clowns on the dirt bikes fly full throttle through the service roads.
