Help identifying font (please graphic designers help)
« on: January 23, 2007, 02:22:12 PM »
Hi everybody. I want to make some graphic files in order to make stickers to order. I don't have this font available, so I would like to know what's the name in order to search for it. Better yet, if you have it installed I would appreciate if you can write a given webpage name for me inside a .bmp file, that would save me the searching, emule downloading and installing.

Thanks in advance

Raul

often, designers will design their own font... meaning, you would not be given access to it.  i'd be willing to bet that honda would be the type to design their own fonts for this type of thing.

sorry, don't know that font... others might though.

No, I want "www.maraudercustom.com". It doesn't really have to be exactly the same. This font reminds me of that fifties neon signs on diners, so I don't think it should be that difficult, at least for you my american friends....  ;D

Raul, it all depends on how exact you want the match to be. I'm a graphic designer so by nature get really picky about this stuff. If you want an exact match, you're probably out of luck; that one was probably custom-drawn. Interconnected fonts are tough to do well since it's difficult to get the connecting lines to match up but still deal well with different letters' required kernings. I've gone through the entire Adobe Font Collection (2200+fonts) and came up with nada. However, what you're looking for is more of a boutique font and Adobe doesn't provide much in the way of fun fonts for the unwashed masses.  ;D

Now if you're not particularly picky, your font is along the lines of "Dymaxion Script" or "Hood Ornament" but heavier. I'd recommend going to these free font sites and poking around in the "retro" or "script" sections:

www.dafont.com (my favorite)
www.fontfreak.com
www.acidfonts.com

Once you find the right shape, you can Photoshop in the chrome look if you want.

Just an FYI...about 30% of the time these free fonts will cause weird system issues or be corrupted altogether. Caveat emptor!

I did a little internship with one of the world's biggest desgn firms, and for the life of me I can't remember the name.  Their headquarters at the time were on a river boat docked at Pier 5 in San Francisco...
Anyway- I can guarantee that that font will not be found by mere mortals in this lifetime.  You'll need to make it up as close as you can.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

It doesn't have to be in capitals, it doesn't even have to be the exact font. We have a community of users of that little commuter bike and want to make some stickers to put under the plate -dealers in Spain use to put a plastic plate holder with their name and phone under it, so we will just cover the dealer sign to make our own advertising...  ;D

Klark, could you post a sample of that font you say you have? Thanks in advance.

it isn't... although, it needs to be a bit more italicized like the one kk submitted.  but, kk's is harder to read in my opinion.  in fact, i really have trouble reading it.

You are right, that "American Dream" font is cool. Maybe is not exactly as the badge font but it is easier to read.

Isn't this forum great? No matter what your question is, you always find friendly people from all walks of life willing to help. Thank you all!

part of the reason that the text is so hard to read on that black and white version is, just that... it has been proven over and over that black text on white background is most stressful on the eyes.

red text on black is better
light blue text on black is even better

that's why autocad has those options to change those types of settings and it also has a lot to do with why the old computer systems useds to have black backgrounds and orange or yellow text.

old computer systems useds to have black backgrounds and orange or yellow text.

I thought it was simply because the monochrome cathode-ray tubes didn't have shades of gray: pixels were either lit or not, and the tube would last longer if only the letter pixels where lit than the opposite.

In fact, I remember one of the first virus that would set a letter permanently on the screen, to the point it would burn the substrate and would damage the screen. I remember also the "falling letters" virus, in which the letters would fall as you were typing... Ah, those were the days, starting the PC with the MS DOS version 3 in a 5 1/4 floppy drive....

... and if you think about it, even in those days our SOHC's were already old....

well, i bet that had a bit to do with it too but, i've also been told by my computer professors at school what i just said.  perhaps, he was talking out of his you know what but, i doubt it... they both probably played a role in the why and how of a lot of early computing.

the color definately had something to do with it but aso i did it quick and i am sure i could have antialiased it to look more readable, also a small file.  glad it helped- the reason you can ask for almost any help and people will gladly give it to you is because we are so happy to be able to give back to the members of this board who know much more than we do about the bikes we love.
thanks
