I'm in much the same boat as you-  and I hate logos.  Ever read Gibson's "Pattern Recognition"?

I've been researching for awhile and so far found that armor is available in all Johnson Leather products.  I really, really want a Fox Creek but no armour (and I'm not super keen on those side ties).  I emailed fox creek and they say they will be introducing armoured jackets in the "near future".

I'm waiting with anticipation to find out what else is coming up.

I ride in full 1 piece leathers when riding my sportbikes, but I wanted a basic jacket for casual riding.  I wanted descent protection, a removable liner and cool looks.  I spent almot a month trying to find the right jacket.   My girlfriend was buying the jacket for me as a gift, so I didn't want to go overboard on cost.  If it wasn't for that, I would have probably gotten this Mike Hailwood replica that Vanson makes.  In the end, I bought a Frank Thomas and I'm reasonably happy.  I would be totally happy if had better zippers.

Yes, Vanson makes some very high quality/nice stuff.

I bought the Frank Thomas Cafe (black/red stripe).  I'm wearing it in my picture in the Mugshot thread.  It looks shiney in the picture, but it's mostly from the flash.  Vanson has another jacket that I love called the Manx.  It's another old school type jacket with very few pockets/zippers and such.

For this jacket:

Any idea what size 50 translates to? Large? Im 6`4, 190 and long arms. Not sure about US jacket sizes.

Cheers

Andy,

I'm also 6'4" but a few pounds heavier than 190 ::). Can't speak to the 50 issue, but if a jacket doesn't specifically indicate "tall" you are going to have problems. You generally have to go to the more high-end jackets to have tall sizes available.

If this is a USA jacket, the 50 should be the chest size in inches.  It's odd that it goes from 36, 38 and then 50.  I assume 40-48 are all sold out?  Most jackets use the chest as the main measurement, but some offer waist and arm measurements as well.

I wear a 40 in US sizes, but my European race leathers are 50 (I don't know what the conversion is).

The rings on my arm sleeve zippers are actually Californium radiation source retaining pins from when I was a nuclear engineer... I like to add things from my experience, hobbies, and world.

Andy, I think that jacket is a bit big for you.
I'm 6ft2 and am a 42 tall at 180lbs.  I would guess you are a 44 tall.

A 50 would be for a fairly robust guy :D

I too have the Icon Motorhead jacket that another poster is wearing, My favorite part of the whole coat is the fact that its not shiny leather its more of a flat black, which in my humble opinion is sweet.  and its pretty dry too, as in Squamish to Whistler, coastal rainfall for two hours dry. I was very suprised only two small wet spots on my shirt underneath when I got home.

Yeah, I got the jist of your joke.

I just like it because it is unique.  A little something that I picked up from New Orleans over 10 yrs ago & love it because it turns heads!
