Kickstart pin install
« on: April 14, 2019, 10:40:51 AM »
Hey all-
Watched a video where someone hammered the pin to reinstall with a block of wood. Worried that the wood would splinter into my clean engine. Any techniques people recommend? Can I reuse the old pin with no problem? Should I maybe freeze the pin. It’s a pretty tight fit. I’m assuming I shouldn’t close the pin a little. Assuming a little assembly lube is fine?  Does the top case hold the pin in or is there a possibility it can come out if it’s not wedged in tight enough?

Wound up freezing it, putting assembly lube on it, and very carefully/gently tapping it in with a small hammer. Worked great. The upper half of the case has a piece that comes down and almost touches the top of the pin to keep it in place.
