update on bike, put it on 1080

I put paint on the motor after this video, I also broke the top left side of the motor casing, where the bar passes through a chunk of the cast aluminum tore right off. Thankfully it's in a spot that should be easily welded and not near any oil holdings or pressurized compartments. I sanded the fins prior so I had less work after painted. The oil tank is cleaned and ready for install, the battery box is ready for install, the wire harness, battery, led, chain need to get ordered.  The rims are getting laced sometimes this week and I should have the calipers taken apart and cleaned and ready for install once the tires are done.

I would run a 48 tooth  sprocket, or more on backnif you want acceleration. You may not need an idler,  but it can't hurt..

thats what i meant to say in the video, I THINK that one is a 48 not a 45. Its the one that came on there i think. For some reason I thought I had to decrease the number of teeth.

update.
wheels are laced
got the calipers all taken apart and cleaned and ready for install
foot pegs, side stand, center stand, head light bucket and other small bits taped off for paint that i missed, didn't have, or think about.
decided since its winter i don't need to drop coin on fancy tires, a pair of shinkos will do the trick...thinking about a 130or140/70or90/18
and a 110 on the front.

Im not going to spend the money for upgraded electrical hardware outside of a new harness and headlight for right now.

update: carbs, airbox, wire harness, coils, oil tank all hung up.

needs: brake assembly front and rear, rear wheel bearings greased, tires installed, head light, brake lines, controls, chain, oil, tune up.

This is moving slowly bc im restoring and flipping a bmw r100 so my funds are being soaked up between two bikes.

Update:
Calipers together with pistons and pucks, exhaust is buttoned up, oil filter housing is buttoned up. 18" is very difficult to find in stock around here...I ended up using a Kenda on the front and battle-ax on the rear, I'll put as many miles on them before snow hits then replace them in the spring. That black tank is a wrinkle tank, its not mine but put it on the bike and have decided going forward with the all black theme, i'll paint my spare tank and use the brushed steel trim from the 69’ models. Let's see where i get with her by Friday.

Loving this build - the black on black looks very good. I have always thought about doing it. Rims look sharp! I also really really want those front chrome calipers!!  8)

I scored that chopper front end for 20 bucks, I was stoked when I found those calipers. I have a concern about my tank bc this wrinkle tank has a wider channel and broader shoulders. It gives me the proportions for me to like a stock seat, otherwise I was considering a custom smaller seating option. I had the new seat on there with the grey tank and didn't like it, since everything looks smaller in black, and this wrinkle tank still looked good, i have to assume it really is THAT much wider. I don't want to buy this tank bc its not in my budget.  I was happy I could achieve the look of the wheels I did in the price range that i did. The money I saved in parts was able to pay for professional lacing.

Tanks should be same width.

This one isn't. my other tanks fit on nice and snug, the wrinkle tank barely touches the rubbers. I'll measure it and take a picture and show you guys when i get to the shop.

Almost 98 Percent chance someone  blew it up with air..  good luck selling that..
 Easy to check, put a straight edge a cross the bottom, should be flat... but I bet it isn't ..

The tensioner ,  or idler, there are a few types I think, you will have to figure out mounting,,

Of course money is always a delaying factor. I was trying to figure out what to do for signals but decided to borrow the signals from my 550 since they dont work bc of something in my wiring system. I could also borrow the truck lite head light and be done. I was considering this because im leaking at my o rings at the base gasket on the 550 and have a rebuild kit for it...so I might as well do that now. I wanted to polish my control housings on the 750, I saw them recently one on a pro build online on a 550 and they looked wonderful. I bought 7/8 grips from bitlwell and they are tight, tight....like won't fit on my throttle tube tight....maybe i have the wrong one on there? I think I will be able to use a banjo and line right from the caliper which would be nice. I haven't upgraded any electrical for this bike...I WANTED new harness or mUnit, new coils, wires, caps, elec points, reg/rec...but who has an extra 1k for all of that.
 I still need to:
hook up brake lines
controls and levers
throttle and clutch cables
tune up
chain and idler
rear tail light ??
turn signals - just need to be installed
head light - steal from my 550?
paint a black tank
source emblem for side cover
decide on a seat option...either a new stock seat for 200 or recover the seat i have...I just haven't found any cover patterns I liked.
I still have to replace a rear wheel bearing, I probably need to replace the brake shoes as well.
An allen bolt head kit on here would look nice...all my screws were sandblasted so they will look like #$%*. There is a couple donor motors in the shop and I think between them I may have a full set.

winner winner chicken dinner, you are very much correct. I take it this was done intentionally to make room for a modification? I ended up buying it for this build at a cheaper price and spacing out and usuing a little wider rubbers. Fits snug now.

I think all it takes is for the tank vent to get plugged and then sit out in the sun on a very hot day.  Recently, I cleaned up a kz1000 tank to give to my painter buddy.  I left it sealed with small amount of marvel mystery oil, not really thinking about it.  My painter buddy didn't think about it either and after painting ran it through the paint booth bake cycle.  It got severely expanded and deformed.  Won't even fit down on the frame...basically ruined.
If it works good, it looks good...

Oh ok, my buddy said he can get it out using the strap method but it doesn’t bother me for now so I’ll run it like it is.

I got these bars last year at a swap meet for like 20 bucks but I threw them in a box and forgot about them. I just played around with them and I love these things, Im also going to buy a black and white stripe decal stick it on this tank and clear coat it.

Those bars are pretty neat.  Cool they are adjustable without loosening the clamps. Only downside I see is you can't run wires through them.

Do I need to really file down the lower part of the caliper mount on the right side to get it parallel with the disk face? That's the only thing I haven't done and it's still cocked. Its been such a pain in the ass and I see why a couple people tried talking me out of it. Also, bleeding the brakes today I couldn't seem to get good pressure to one side but the other is fine. I bled the MC, bled it at the junction under the triple, then bled one side at a time down low. The left side had good pressure and it would shoot out but the right side would just puddle out, lever is soft. The wheel turns nicely but I can hear it dragging and can't get the face of the stationary puck to leave the surface of the disc.

Besides that, I went through the rear brakes and made my new brake stay and the front end is like 80%completed, i installed a new seat cover purchased on eBay for 35 bucks, looks good enough for me.

Finish brake install
bleed brakes
make 4 small L bracket turn signal mounts
mount signals
modify front fender and fit it or just run a fork brace
run new fuel line
TEST RIDE.

another thing, how do I pop this tank back? someone used air to pop a dent out and expanded the tank on the left front side. Someone told me they use a strap and ratchet it until it pops back, has anyone done that?

How thick are the shims under the upper mount? They should be about 3mm. Remove the adjuster screw and spring, at least until you get the caliper aligned in the vertical axis.
