You are putting stock 4 into 4 on a chopper?...that is just wacky nonsense...

No new pics yet but I did get tires back last night. Wheels are on. I need to chisel one of the sprocket cover screws so I can install the chain. Some stole my drill and reverse bits so I will go with the chisel..

Front end is still twisted up, need to try and straighten that out and if that works, I will install the front brake assembly. Exhaust is scheduled to arrive Monday.

Also just found this cool product, I may have to buy a kit one day if I really like riding this bike!

Still stuck figuring out why my chain is rubbing, can't put the left side exhaust on until that's figure out, so I'm wheeling it around the garage with 2 pipes. I straightened out the twisted front end, adjusted (tightened) the spanner nut at the top tree, and installed the (all new) front brake system and filled with fluid and bled. STILL haven't tried starting it cause I'm trying to figure out the chain. But tonight, if my date falls through I'm thinking about just throwing it together anyways just to see if it runs.Then I can spend the weekend tuning if needed. I already rebuilt the carbs.

Oh! and i also listed the triangular light on ebay for $60 and it sold.. in like 40 minutes!

Also got a few quotes on custom bars, even if I get riserless bars, having them drilled gets me up to $180, and having them made with stainless is another $100. I can't find a place to chrome, either. SO for now I tilted my bars back so the middle bend is parallel to the ground, and I'm keeping them.

I took off the ugly sissy bar and I've ordered a nice tubular one from some guy on ebay with some NOS chopper parts. I'm going to use a pipe clamp and p-clip to secure it to the frame on each side.

Fender is all drilled up from past mods so I don't feel bad ditching it or cutting it up. Cant decide if I want to chop the fender down short, and use it to mount my lights, or just remove the fender entirely and figure something else out for the lights. Only problem with no fender is I have no plan for closing/covering up that empty space in the rear. So I'm leaning toward chopped fender.

After a few setbacks, buying another bike (which is done now and ready for dad a full month after father's day), going on a couple vacations, I was finally able to take the bike for its first ride last night.

Notable items include zip ties, which are currently hold the headlights and gauges on. I can remedy the gauges with stock parts, but I'm not sure what I'll do about the headlights. I replaced the dangerous raked triple clamps with a stock set, which raised the bike a bit. However it still handles fine! I was worried I would hate it, but it's really not bad at all. My primary complaint right now is the heavy clutch, most likely due to the crazy routing of the clutch cable.

As for the sissy bar, I will be trimming the excess pipe later, but I had a ride/meetup to get to today.

Oh! and I dropped the bike twice in a parking lot while NOT under power and just pushing it around. Once I was facing uphill, holding in front brake lever, and I just lost brake pressure and started rolling backward into the street.

I do need to carry a block of wood around to put under the kickstand

Wow, thanks! My favorite aspect to this build is that you could take it back to stock in an afternoon. It could be the first bike of the month held together with zip ties!

regarding the leather strip on the hub. that was used back in the day to keep the hub clean as you rode.

This is coming out pretty sick honestly. It's hard for me to like a lot of inline 4 choppers, because I guess the proportions aren't always "right" to me. But this is coming out really nice.

Thanks! right now I just need to figure out something to do with the kickstand, to add some more length to it, since the bike has longer forks with no change in rake.

I agree with you to some degree, although I do want to build a "real" chop one day in a hardtail frame using a 750 motor. Those are cool. This is a fun kinda dorky "fake" chopper but it has the style down pretty well I think.

Any good ideas for the kickstand?

I've considered:

A. drill through kickstand vertically and add a spacer that adds vertical height to the stand

B. add some pipe to end of the kick stand, adding more horizontal length the stand

Either way I want to do away with the 2x4 asap

If you scroll up to my photo from July 17th, you can see it's dangerously canted without anything under the stand. Then in the photos it's just fine with the 2x4. So I would say it needs at least 1-1/2' maybe a little more.

I found a nice looking one but it says it's only 12" long, which may be the same as the one I already have. It is nicer though.
