My only question is:

Did they ship the new rifle through UPS again?

Oddly enough, yes, and it made it here in a record three days.

if only more guns could go missing...

Since I paid for it and it was my property, AND it's a passion of mine, I'll have to disagree.  ::)

Thomas,

I feel for your anger man. I use UPS almost daily. And over the years I have dealt with a couple similar stories. The one that still gets me steaming is when I shipped a repaired hot air balloon instrument from South Dakota to Arizona. It arrived and the shipping box looked just like your pictures. But my customer in Arizona did nothing. Didn't notify the driver to wait or had the package opened when the driver was there. So the instrument was totaled and the customer sent it back and I had to inform him that he needed to file a claim first (per UPS claim requirements). He did but didn't have the evidence (he should have called Vegas CSI). I repaired the instrument after UPS said they would pay me for the repairs to bring the instrument back to original condition. The bill was over $450 for all the parts I had to replace. Sent in the paperwork and 3 weeks later I got my check from UPS... $100 is all they sent me. Okay the insurance I paid for on the shipment was for $500. But they decided that I shipped it incorrectly and thought the $100 offer was fair. I had my representative contact UPS HQ and tell them that I always exceed the packing minimums and I know how to ship the instruments. Sorry... $100 or they will cancel the check. The customer said they felt responsible and told me that they would pay the difference because they basically got a new instrument out of the deal. Guess what, the customer never paid me either. So I was out $350 dollars...

what?  you don't want to start the gun thread all over again?   :D ;)  no, i don't wish that things you pay for or want would go missing and i was speaking in more of a broader sense than specifically you.

i would have thought that once the feds got involved that it would have been seized... also interesting that the dummies used ups again.

i always use usps... usually about half the price no matter what.  and, price is what convinces me when it comes to shipping... i figure they all can fubar things equally so why not just pay less to have them do it  :D

This thread reminds me of my brother's stories from working at UPS during the summer.  Apparently, the supervisors would check each truck to see that the packages were loaded properly and neatly.  My brother was paired with a guy who had a method for neatness.  He would start by making a neat wall of boxes on the back end of the truck.  He'd leave one corner open and then proceed to launch every package through the hole.  When he was done, he'd fill the gap with a few boxes, and voila, a neatly loaded truck.

Also, from talking to USPS and UPS people, I would advise against marking packages "fragile."  Apparently, many workers take offense that someone should think their package to be more important than others.

Stick with it  Cheapo.  UPS has a history of mangling packages.  I work for a lighting manufacturer and deal with them everyday.  We had a package shipped to a customer where the glass diffuser was broken.  I filed a claim and they sent someone to inspect the package.  Of course the first thing they say was inadequate packaging but one phone call changed that answer.  Here's the kicker: they shipped the damaged package back to our manufacturing facility with the broken glass rattling around in the box even though I left instructions to inspect in place!!   :o  When it arrived at my factory the broken glass had completely scratched the highly polish chrome finish and chipped the powdercoat on the back plate of the fixture!  This caused hundreds of dollars of damage to the fixture and another 6 weeks for us to produce another one for our client.  UPS paid the claim but only for the glass ($110.00) and not for the extra damage!  A $800 light fixture completely destroyed!!  I'm going to start delivering packages on the back of my 750!!!

I used to work for a company that manufactures golf carts and electric vehicles.  We used UPS to ship parts and one summer we had 3 motors go missing within a 6 week time frame.  These motor weighed 300-400# - the package would be delivered to our customer with a gaping hole in it - and of course the box only weighed about 20# without any contents.  But UPS would deliver the damned thing!  Are they blind?  And where on earth would this motor have disappeared to in their truck????  We spent that summer fighting with UPS; I believe they threatened to use FedEx instead, but I doubt they ever did.

That's the problem, though.  People seem to be so used to poor service that they don't bother to complain.  They shrug their shoulders and take it.  I don't know if Cheapo's method will actually force UPS to pay him the money he is out, but at least he's letting them know he won't take it lying down.

The company I work for now ships UPS and my boss recently decided that none of the employees can ship anything UPS any longer because we've had UPS damage packages and refuse to pay the damage claims and he is afraid one of the employees is going to make a fuss and cause problems with UPS.  Personally I think he should be more concerned with the fact that UPS is screwing him....

They deliver it because there's always a chance that (A) the consignee won't pay attention and sign the package clear, or (B) the person signing doesn't know what he/she is doing and/or doesn't care.  Both cases remove the shipper from having to store the package on their dock while the mess is sorted out.

I used to work in the over/short/damaged department of the Nashville Roadway Express terminal.  You'd be amazed at the shipments that people would accept (there were many cases where the person who accepted the package and signed the delivery receipt didn't even work there!)

a reply is a good start  ;)
i hope this thread gets distributed more than we'd ever imagined.  if it makes it into the right hands there really is no telling the grief it could cause shipping companies.  AND RIGHTFULLY SO
it truly is one of the most depressing threads i've read to date... and quite scary as well !!!

They finally paid out for the package and absolutely destroyed a MINT guitar amp on a new package. Check the old link to see the new info. I can ot believe these FU@#ERS!!!!!

BEFORE BROWN

AFTER BROWN

Get ready to say goodbye to UPS.

I figure if I use a brick to blast out a few windows in thier trucks this will make up for the damage they create globally. If I had a big plow truck I would ram into thier trucks with no regrets, not even when the cops show up.  ::)
