Couple 4 into 1 exhaust questions
« on: June 01, 2019, 11:00:36 PM »
Hi I'm installing my 4 into 1 on my bike. I don't have enough nuts for the studs at the moment to completely install it. Will the headers push into place when tightened down? Here is how close to the copper gaskets they are sitting now.

Also the 6mm flange nuts I have left over from whatever are not the same part number as the exhaust nuts. Are these different or special in any way?

I unattached the muffler, it made installing the header easier. Is the rear passenger foot peg on these late model CB's the ideal place to mount the muffler? It seems like the only place. I was going to chop those off. Bike is a solo seat.

Yes they will be pushed back in
But for that you need to put collars before sliding the flanges

The poster above is pointing out that you have the clamps and collars backwards. Split collars FIRST, then finned clamp pushes them in.

Put each collar on the header pipe and let it slide down away from where the pipe will meet the motor.

Now place each pipe against the motor exhaust ports.

Now install two exhaust flanges onto each header pipe pushed up against the pipe where it sits against the motor.
Widest part of the flange faces out away from the motor.

While holding the flanges in place, slide each collar towards the engine so it simultaneously goes onto the exhaust studs and holds the flanges in place.  You will see a groove on the collar that the flanges butt up against.

The collar pushes on the pair of flanges which holds the header pipe against the engine exhaust port.

Install nuts and it should look like this...

Cylinder 2 was hard to align. I eventually got it on and it didn't torque down easy. I feel it might have another turn to go but requires a lot of torque. I did not see the groove you were referring to on the flanges.
