Very nice Seaweb!! I'll bet you're just itchin to start tearing into it. Mucho nice parts to start with and if you get bored with it or run out of cash to put into it....you still have the 78 to ride. Man!!!!!.....what could be better?

seaweb, nice buy there. That is some piece of history! Kinda curious, is the paint on the body piece as good as it looks? ???  Personally, I'm really liking that paint job. 8) I can hardly wait (and I'll bet you can't either) to see how this one's gonna turn out. After seeing the way you went after that CL350, I can only imagine the end result. Have fun (as I know you will) and I'll catch you later on,  Bill :) ;)

Seems some of you know me quite well,......... I have goose bumps I'm so keen on at getting at this ;D ;D

The paint is acutaly quite good. "but not good enough" It will have to be stripped and re-done.
Chrome frame has a couple of issues at first glance, but until I tear it all apart and try and pollish it I won't know the extent I will have to go..

Still waiting on a set of 35mil headlight ears for the K8 to get it out of the shop so I can move the new one in.
Looks like I will start my 24x24 garage in a month or so, so I will have a bit more room to work on the bikes.

The spare engine I bought is siezed so I will start to tear it down in the next few days.

P.S. This has been keeping me busy the last few evenings ;D
It's almost as much work as a real one, but no oil.

seaweb, Let's just say that there is no doubt that you will do a fantastically build on this one, with heavy attention to detail. We can hardly wait also. ;D

Also. I'm diggin' that little project that's been keeping you occupied the last few evenings  ;D 8)

Got my hands dirty on it today. The 78 motor is up on a bench. PO told me it was seized so 1st off found neutral and the drive spun free ;D  Next removed the points cover, put a wrench on the big bolt and could only get it to turn 1/8th turn in either direction. Removed Valve cover and all other side covers, wigled a few things and tried again.

I must have an angel on my shoulder because it rotated freely after a couple of back and forth movements.
I win, I win.

This motor had allen bolts installed, has been repainted at some point with some love and care and even came with all the finned covers including a very old school looking finned starter cover.

Perhaps someone has already been into this motor with some mods.  What should I be looking for (id#s) on the cam to see if it is stock or a replacement?  When I get a bit further in how can I tell/measure pistons etc. to see what I have here?

The cams seem to be next to impossible to ID. Perhaps an after market cam would have different markings than Honda. I think Yoshimura used Honda blanks with similar markings. Measure the diameter on the valve heads. Measure the diameter of the pistons. Look for manufacturer ID on the sides of the pistons. Post pix. Also a pix of the cam chain. Report back. That'd be a good start.

Take it easy on the nut under the point cover! If you want to spin the engine for something other than timing use the nut on the other end that holds the rotor on.

Not really, no room in the shop until I get a couple of parts to finish up the K8 winter work. I've been waiting 4 weeks for some new fork ears >:(

I'm going to take the motor to a guy I know to get some help with the big bore kit etc. on Tuesday. Hope to get the frame in the shop next week.

Notice the cleaned out shelves ready for the new parts.

Well I finally got the winter upgrades finished on the K8 and got the new bird in to the shop.
1 hour later I had it stripped this far.

Chrome wasn't in as good a shape as I would have liked.

Derek, sometimes it's 2 forward and 1 back. Good looking though! Have you talked to Joe lately about checking out your motors? I've e-mailed him today if I can run mine (all in pieces) up to him for some advice. I think I just want a good, strong stock motor. No reply yet but he's a busy guy.
Cheers,
Cliff.

Thanks for asking.

New head light ears, new front signals, new oil pressure gauge, new tail light, new oil filter adapter and filter/

To answer your question about Joe. He is a no go. To busy for my way of doing things. I dropped off the motor at Freds down the road. He's digging into it for me. I just have to many construction projects going on around the house right now to do the motor work. New dbl garage/suite, spiral stair case and a deck are all in the works right now.

Very nice! I got the new headlight ears but not the chrome shell or the fancy headlamp. I have small turn sigs but was going to mount them into the middle of the ears (drill holes). I like the way your's mount to the shell bolts. Also have other front end improvements going on. I gotta keep in touch with your fork brace deal with Terry. I want one too. Also waiting for my oil cooler (he said it was ready last weekend). I'll just be happy to be riding by May-June. Keep up the progress reports Seaweb....its all lookin good!!!
