What is wrong with the master??  Do you mean gouged internally??.. could be from all the barnjob methods folks use to remove circlip! If external, sand & polish out.

What I was going to mention is that may be a really early m/c like K0.. it is if the cap is dished on top & there is an adjuster screw & locknut underneath to adjust the lever.

I am not saying it is optimal but I ran a stock m/c with duals for a few years and I found no problems with it..FWIW.. I think that  stock type will look better on that bike than newer styles.

IMHO.. i think you should go vintage, it would fit the aesthetic of the tracy body kit ...little stuff like that stands out to me

#$%* wetsanding. i use a red scotchbrite disk on a drill press to prepare all of my aluminum for polishing, and if you're good with the pressure you can use the same disk to smooth gouges and "rough sand" the surface. you'd be suprised what kind of crap can shone again in minutes. i go from that straight to green or red compound on a wheel, and it's really fast.

oops, didn't mean to start another polishing thread..  ::) ;D

If you mean the widget with the two electrical connections, it's a pressure switch that actuates the brake light.

Sooooooooooooo...........there should wires connected to it then :o

good to know ;D

I've actally disposed of my pressure switch, the thread in the splitter is the same as those for the brake lines, so I've been able to do away with the double stacked banjos.  I've replaced my master cylinder with one from a late eighties CBR600F which has a switch built into the lever.

  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

My rev limiter came in today.

Thoughts on what I should I set this at for this 836 bike?  it goes from 6-12.  Stock would be...85-95, but now?

Derek, are you running stock coils, if so PM me when you have it sorted, having trouble with mine. Rewired the bike last week to make sure all was well on that side....refitted the limiter and found we had a flat battery, will try again this weekend with new battery.

Derek,
I found the part and will get it off to you. You'll need to buy the proper locking tab washer for it, or if you like I can get one for you and drop it in the mail too.
Cheers,
Cliff.

Sam: Yes Stock coils thus far. Still trying to figure out where on the coils they wire into ??? Have to spend a bit more time looking over the wiring.

Cliff, thanks. Yeah the less for me to have to deal with the better. I'll make it worth your time. ;D

My understanding on what I have built: (1st time for me)

With all the upgrades and lightened rotor this motor can and will get the revs up much quicker than stock.

I believe if I were to have a gear slip out on a hard run, the motor can and will go far beyond what would be reasonable tolerances very quickly/ BOOM!!!!!!!!

Also in fits of rage, it will stop you from blowing it up on purpose ;D

Greg, when you spend $9,000 on a motor you don't take chances.
like Derek says, these big motors pick up that quick you can see 11,500 on the clock before you realise it, ya don't want to go there.

You should be able spin it up to 11,500 or 12 K a few dozen times  without hurting it.. mine hung together with stock rods, wild cam, 836 kit etc...

But, when I build my bigger meaner one I may consider using a rev limiter.

At first when you build a motor, all you thinks of is the dollar signs,, but if you get 10 years or a few decades out of it you realize its all FREE time.

I am not sating you cant kill them, but you can throw a lot of repeated abuse at it for a long time and they still live!...

What valve springs are you running?, I think if you have stockers it will limit it somewhat anyway..

Sorry Derek, I missed the fact you were asking a question.

Peak power on the CR was at 8,500rpm, we are setting ours at 9,000.

Start with it set low to start with to try it...say 6,500/7,000. If it works (like ours didn't) turn it up to where your power starts to fall off.

You need to get it dynoed to know where that is.

Good to know, I'm going to start cleaning up a Russ Colins 900 motor before long, i have never herd it run, but I'm pretty sure it will be cranking Hi RPM's, well i hope it does. I never would have thought to put one on.

I had a 836 with Yosh Aluminum rods, i stretched out one of the rods and really fed up the head. Might be why.
Thanks Guys i'm hear to learn

Yep, i have issues with this sort of stuff.

Greg, everybody knows that any Honda will rev and rev till the cows come home, but 99% of the time there is no power past the point that Honda says it stops at. (67bhp@8,500rpm)
What's the point of reving an motor to 11,000 where it is probably making 25bhp and asking for trouble.
