Newbie
« on: July 22, 2019, 03:56:52 AM »
Hello. Just back into bike world. Not an owner but trying to help s widow.   Husband passed about a month ago. Owned a 1978 CB 550 four K. Bike has good bones but was not stored well. I am bringing it out of hibernation. Bike in basement for 25-20 years, has 9673 miles on her.
Starting the process of step by step rehab.
I has put oil on top of pistons and genially turned motor over. It turns easy but I have not yet started her up.
Will be changing oil, etc and will have her started later this week.
Going through but owner will probably sell at some point.
Anyway, I am John

Welcome from NE MN,

You are on the correct path for resurrecting the bike.  Went through the same process five years ago.  That bike has now done 3 Ironbutt rides.

Yeah. Non-ethanol may be best.
Also play with British Cars. My 69 TR6 has hardened valve seats but I still use NE gas when available
Best reason is them not being driven that often. Ethanol absorbs moisture and breaks down in a couple weeks. The gas in the bike looked like maple syrup.

Success. Fired her up and all is well.
One problem was I could not break the oil filter nut.
Tried wrench, breaker bar and impact wrench. Afraid of damage.
Bob had a highway bar which I had to remove to access. Makes me think he didn’t change filter; oil did not look bad though.
