oil pump cover screw
« on: September 09, 2019, 03:34:33 pm »
Rebuilt the oil pump but in the process managed to strip out the heads of two of the flange screws.  Had to drill and use an extractor to get them out.  Tried getting some flare style metric screws locally but none available.  Took a look a the CB550F parts diagram, it shows the screws but no part #.

Does anyone know the part # and where I can find these screws?

Thanks.

There is no part number as they never came seperate. Cant remember wether they are 5 or 6mm standard countersunk set screws, you can use allen screws

Thanks for the reply.  They are 6mm 1.0mm pitch about 12mm long.  I'll search using the term countersunk.

Countersunk was the correct term to use.  I have some on order.

A good place to get screws from is McMaster-carr.   They are much cheaper than say Home Despot and if you are close to a distribution location, you might get them the next day without special charges.

A "metric" bike shop may have these screws, there's nothing special about them. Homeless Despot won't have flathead metric screws if the ones near me are any indication.

I ordered countersunk M6 from UK. They were a little but longer  so I had to grind them off 2mm to avoid hitting the gear.
Cheaper than order locally  Sweden ;)
Edit: eBay has changed shipping since then so most likely not that cheap anymore. Find outside eBay is what I prefer today when shipping small stuff for £2-6  has often changed to £12 and less possibility to add parts of other part no to the order.
I replaced the other screws too with hex head M6 that I had home.

Same on 3 pumps. Drill heads off, remove cover and grab the screw with a plier and unscrew it. As I have done with many X heads on my bike, the trans shaft bearing holder included.

The Kit I ordered will come with multiple lengths of M6 screws so I should be able to avoid the grinder.  For temporary install is used some pan head screws.  Pulled the pan and replaced the screen and hose as well.  As you would expect for 30,000 miles there was some fine particles but not much in the bottom of the pan.  Finished the oil change and will re-install the header tomorrow to complete the project.  After market MAC header is in the way of removing the oil pan.
