78 CB550 - Putting Engine Back Together....Long Overdue
« on: September 28, 2019, 03:59:08 PM »
Hello everyone. I'm a longtime member but haven't been on the forum in a long while. Happy to be back :D

I have a 1978 CB550. I have the engine out of the frame. Had some head work done a while back, new valves, seals, had it ported as well. I've had this bike for over a decade, took it apart a few years ago but life just kinda got in the way and the project was put on hold, I know some of you know how that goes. I've been busy the last few years bein a dad and a family man, time to put this thing back together though. Was hoping I could get some guidance when needed as I go.

I have all side covers taken off, old gasket gunk cleaned off. I've replaced the O-rings and gaskets underneath the cylinder, put cam chain guide and tensioner in.

Best of luck on the rebuild...nice progress.
Recall you should use the rubber band trick on the valve/cam cover to prevent valve or valve guide damage when reassembling.

The head work was done by Chris Schumann, owner and operator of Schumann Motor Works in Milwaukie, OR. Link to facebook page

I really appreciate the reminder RAF. I need to be told that over and over again!  ;D
