Topic: Rebuild Cub/Trail Trailing Link Suspension

Has anyone ever rebuilt the trailing link front suspension on the early Cubs and Trails? Mine have some nasty rubber. I see these rebuild kits on eBay but I don't have a clue about replacing these bushings. I can't get the metal caps off. Pretty sure the rubber bits will press out.

I haven't posted to the trails forum, I know it exists, but it's pretty quiet and I don't have an account yet so I'll try here first. Didn't see any threads about it when I searched either.

No I have not rebuilt them, have a 81 C70 Passport, but have you looked at the exploded parts diagram?
DrATV.com carries most of the parts for the front end.  Likely similar sources...but, I would trust buying from them that I would get good quality parts...because they have been in business a long time and know the small bikes.
Which bushing are you referring to?  Shock bushing or another part? Which number from the parts diagram for which bike so I can lookup the same bike parts diagram.  Posting a copy could save sometime but without a parts list the diagram doesn’t give you parts name...
If DRATV indicates it is a Honda OEM part you might be able to order it from South Sound Honda for a bit less if you have a big enough order to spread the shipping costs over, otherwise it would be better to just order them from DrATV.

I've actually bought cables from the doc, they run a great site. Not very well optimized for mobile but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The bushing in the shock eye itself is pretty smooshed and the center pivot is missing some rubber. The pivot that still has the caps on that I cannot get off is the shock pivot. The opposite side of the arm is the axle pinch. Didn't all the Cub models from like, 70 and up have telescoping forks? This ones a 68. I think. Can't find a VIN or anything, but that's another thing for another time lol

I figured that the parts on this little guy are so cheap that I should go ahead and repair and replace everything. Not like my CB650 that I've cut so, so many corners on...

Passports used the trailing link suspension, the CTs went to telescopic forks.  DrATV has replacement for the lower link assembly , shock pivots, with sealed bearing design.
Yes, the DrATV site is not a modern site...
Yahoo C70 group is very active and helpful with lots of knowledgeable folks, join it if you cannot find the answer you seek here...

DrATV has a surprising number of parts for the old leading/trailing link design suspension. So, I would order everything you can get/need from them.

Actually the C70 has a Leading Link front suspension as I expect yours does as well. Holding the front brake and revving the motor a bit (releasing the clutch so to speak) the front suspension/front-end will rise.

Right! Leading link. My bad. Thanks for the info, y'all! I'll check out that Yahoo group and email the doctor. I thought the links they sold were just the bare arms but now that I look again, they look like they have different bushings in them.
