Greetings from Belgium! 2nd CB750F2
« on: November 12, 2019, 11:01:53 AM »
Hello everyone!

My name is Dylan, I'm 25 years old and I live in Antwerp, Belgium (I apologise in advance if my English is not always correct).

I've always been a fan of the Honda mini motorcycles, such as the Dax and Monkey.
Here are two of my previous mini's:

I bought my first '78 CB750F2 2 years ago and made it into a cafe racer, because I really like the look of that.
The engine already had a rebuild when I got it.

Then we had a baby on the way so I sold my bikes to buy a family car  ::)

Since I was in love with the CB750, I decided it was now time to get another one.
So I'm picking one up in 2 days, again a '78 CB750F2.

This one has seen better days. It has 66000km's (41000 miles) and never got a rebuild.
There's blue smoke coming out of the exhaust.

It will probably need new piston rings or maybe even pistons and since it's an F2, definitely new valve guides and maybe valves.
I'm also going to replace all the bearings in the bottom end.

Other things I should definitely check?
I will measure everything that I can with a micrometer at work to be sure it's still in spec or not.
The electric starter is also not rotating the engine sometimes, so something must be wrong with the starter clutch or something.

The biggest problem is that there are not many parts available here, so I will have to order some from the USA I think, which costs a lot of money to get in here.

I will make a topic in the projects section about the complete rebuild of the bike.

As a guidance I will also buy Hondaman's book, even though it is not specific for the F2 version.

I've already been reading for days about engine rebuilds on this forum.
And I will most definitely ask a ton more questions, but I think this is the right place for that.  ;D

There are plenty of SOHC guys in Belgium/Holland/Germany so there must be parts around - also try David Silver Spares in the UK. I used to have an F2 - bought it in Scotland took it with me to England - excellent bikes  - I had a very good trip one time to Paris-Loire-Alsace and back to England loaded with wine ;).

Good luck!

Yes , try to check the front sprocket area if they let you take the cover off, or check with strong light.
If it has case damage, often it's still useable, or fixable, but I would use that to lower the price, it may help.

Cheers from Germany.

CSMNL has a lot of parts no longer available. (Such as the famous grooved bearings for the transmission)
Ebay.de still has everything!  :o
Thanks for the tip!

Congratulations and welcome.

I'll be curious what your engine serial number is. Something to keep in mind since you mention "and since it's an F2, definitely new valve guides and maybe valves" that your Euro bike may NOT have our/the US F2's engine that uses the 34/31mm valves. If yours has the/our F0/F1/K7/K8 (-392) engine you will have 31/28mm valves and the valve guide issue will not be such a problem. Perhaps you can get by with rings, valve seals and valve lapping.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I did not know that!
Will post engine serial number as soon as I get the bike.

And here she is!

It takes 5 minutes to start her up because of the cold, the seat is ripped, the engine smokes and leaks, the paint is coming off, it has a bunch of different non-original parts...
And I absolutely love her!

The engine code is CB750E-2614846.
