Big things you carried on your SOHC Honda.
« on: December 08, 2019, 10:08:55 PM »
Back around 78 , I  was coming home from Sturgis. I stopped at a store in Montana,  near Missoula  and saw a few sets of mounted longhorns...and I thought, maybe I could take a set home. But they were like really wide but cheap so I bought them tied them to the forks and rode about 500 miles . They were so wide I had to ride in the middle of the lane, and be careful passing,  lucky I was riding alone..
Here is a pic, not a great pic..

I've carried a few huge boxes like this, with tanks or exhaust in them. Once I carried my CL350 exhaust to a welder on my 550.

Ha! I've done essentially the same thing. Gone camping for a couple days with a tent and bags and gear on my 550, stuff on tank and strapped behind me.

But nothing compares to what I see in Indonesia being ferried around with small displacement bikes. Chicken coops with 20 chickens, guys with 6 or so gas cannisters for delivery, and of course whole families on little scooters. I stopped taking pictures of 4 or 5, I'm only after 6 (or more!) these days.

We towed (edit, my 750) TO my aunt's house in central PA. and rode from there to Ocean City. On the way back we looked like the grapes of wrath. Bags of clothes, beach mats, luggage, gifts etc. It all stayed on, somehow.

Am I the only one who took a quick look at this and thought he towed his aunt's house on a SOHC4?

Probably...

You laugh, we had a large riding friend with a large wife and a 450 dohc. They kept burning through the tail light wire when the tire wore through it under the fender. He ran it over the top before finally getting a bigger bike.

I hauled M/C tires home from the bike shop once. I wore them over my head and shoulder like a bandolero.  Worked OK.

When my truck was in the shop I rode my  CL72 Scrambler to work ( I'm a carpenter). Put the belt for my nail bags under my arm pits and rode about 30 or 40 miles to the job.........that really sucked! But it isn't anywhere as big as that beauty a few posts back, or a motorcycle, or a house like Don😁

While I did use my bike to haul some 5 foot lengths of steel once, it was only for a short distance. The biggest load I every carried for any distance was all my gear for a ten day, 3000+ mile ride, shortly after I bought it in 1979. At first, there was also a tin one gallon gas can strapped on top, but after finding out how good of mileage I was getting from the Webers, I ditched it.
