FIRE! Melted 1974 CB550K Needs a stator Part numbers
« on: December 10, 2019, 08:32:43 AM »
New to the forum. First Honda. 1974 CB 550K. My last two project bikes were a 1978 Suzuki GS1000 and a 1974 Yamaha DT175.

A good friend gave me this bike after a leaky carb caused it to catch fire. Most of the damage was on the left side so the electrical components need replacing. Here's the issue: the stator and field coil wiring and rubber grommets were damaged. I could repair the wires but need to replace the rubber grommet. I've done some research and can't find a lead on the grommets or substitutes. Does anyone here have an idea for replacement or substitute parts?

If the only option is another stator and field coil, here is the next problem: I cannot locate a parts diagram with a complete list of part numbers for a 1974 CB550 so I don't know how many years of bikes I can search for on ebay or salvage yards for the correct stator and field coil. The bit of info I have found seems to point out that the stator (31102323025) and field coil (31103323005) for the 75-78 are the same but I don't like to assume anything, especially as 1974 was the first year.

Any information is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

all the 500/550 share the same field and stator, the 350 is the same so to speak but the fly leads come off in the opposite direction.
