Cb550 Tacho
« on: February 06, 2020, 09:11:24 am »
Hello
Im going to install a Velona Speedo on a Cb500 1977
Its a cafe racer that im building for a friend..
This speedo has also a display rpm..
In the instructions it says to install the "white wire" on the 12v supply on the coils so it can read the pulse
Why i think that is wrong?
Pulse is not coming throught the points?
BTW i have install electronic ignition..
Its the second speedo(velona) that im going to install..The first one was suddenly die..and i dont remember sure but im afraid was when i install the rpm wire on the 12v supply..
Anyone had any idea what i could do?
Thanks in advance

I dont thonk you can make that work with electronic ignition
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

The instructions may be referring to a "CDI" type electronic ignition, which pulses the positive side of the coil, while our ignition systems switch the negative side of the coil, whether electronic or points. There should be an "inductive" option which uses a wire wrapped around a spark plug wire to provide the pulse for the tachometer function.
