Cb350 f1 1974 oil filter bolt. Bolt central oil
« on: March 03, 2020, 12:59:55 pm »
Need some technical advice.
The cb350 f1 had an original bolt central oil with a 12mm nut
I believe that due to the size it is easily damaged.
Can you suggest an after market replacement with 17mm head that would fit?
Also which other models would use the same part
I found out the cb 650 1979-82 would be the same .
But wondered if cb500 , 550 or 400 would fit. So same shape but bigger nuts head

All the 4 cylinder Hondas including the goldwing through to 1987 use the same bolt and filter can.

750 f2 is different.
Reason for the 12mm head is to stop you cranking down too tight or keeping going if cross threaded as cases are expensive

Just tighten it properly and that 12mm hex head will be more than you need. You want to tighten it enough to just have the oil filter housing contact the engine case face, so the O-ring is compressed, and just a little bit more to snug up the bolt. Some grease or anti-seize on the bolt between the hex end and the small O-ring helps avoid corrosion that may seize the bolt: past that O-ring is your engine oil, and nothing in there will be corroding.
Aftermarket filter bolts are sometimes not so good: I have encountered the bypass valve with a weak spring, a too-strong spring, or even mis-assembled to either bypass all the time or be unable to bypass. Use a genuine OEM one.

The bolt on my CB350F was already damaged when I got the bike so I fitted the 17mm version and it works fine. Just don't swing on the spanner when you tighten it up.

As soon as the filter casing goes metal to metal with the crankcase stop!
