Back in the 90's I was sitting on the crapper reading a bike mag, and my wife knocks on the door, and tells me the neighbours across the road (one of the few non-miltary families, they were school teachers, and hopeless at anything non-classroom related) wanted to borrow my shovel as they had a tiger snake in their yard?
It was around 9pm and dark, so I put on a pair off shorts, walked out into the middle of the road and they were standing there, looking at me. I said "Where's the snake?" He answered, "Beside you" I look down, and yep, a good size Tiger snake, maybe 6 feet long? I smack it with my shovel, and that just hisses it off and it strikes at me, so I smack it again, and as I'm getting traction, the shovel is going "Clang, clang, clang" on the road.
I finally smote the serpent a final deadly blow, and got a round of applause from all my neighbours, who'd come out when they heard the fearsome battle. I casually picked up the snake and dumped it in my wheelie bin, and put my shovel away, victorious..........
