Tank painted & cleared - now what?
« on: March 17, 2020, 11:07:25 PM »
Need some paint finishing advise from the experts out there.  I painted and cleared my tank using Aero 2K color and 2K clear.  I'm left with a slight orange peel that I plan to wet sand out with 2000 grit paper.  Ultimately, I want to end up with a very low gloss finish without swirl marks or scratches from sanding.  What compounds and pads do you recommend, and in what sequence?  I have a variable speed buffer that goes from the 600 RPM to 3350 RPM range.

Wet sand with 1200 in one direction, then 2000 in the opposite, then up to 3000, then switch to a scratch compound on a firm pad (I use white), then to a polishing pad with a softer compound for finish (I use red pads here).

What carj said. ;D
After final cutting buff, a good clean with soapy water followed by a polish with a clean buff using corn flower.
This will remove any swirling and heat marks. Adds a nice deep luster as well.
