Where is the blushing bride, Asia or Ireland? I suppose that would make for a major difference in attitude???

In Asia, Ireland is no country for old men.

If I can't have a sensible conversation with Bill The Demon anymore at least you've made a return.
It's good to have you back in the fold Kev.

Now we have the Ice breaker behind us.  :)

So sorry to have been absent for so long. Big changes in life sometimes take you by surprise.

There was I , happy as a sand boy in France when a beautiful Filipina stole my heart.
How an online romance can flourish could possibly occupy tomes of posts, but let's just say two people got lucky.

Leaving France was not easy. I had sort of put down roots in Occitanie and expected to see out my days there. But all change now.

Emptying the garage . . don't start me on that. I never knew I was such a hoarder . . .

Giving away my daughter's stuff, that was not easy. My son Brendan came over to help, could not have done it without him.

So I came away to spend some time in Dublin but with only 3 bikes, feck once there were 6, but I console myself in the fact that I have the most beautiful wife, and an RC30. Our honeymoon in Singapore and Thailand was absolutely superb, I think motorcycle trips of several Asian countries await us.

In December I got my residency visa for the Philippines, so in January it was planned to relocate there Then Corona virus stalked Asia. Then it fecked Europe up.

So some isolation is required for the moment.

Getting wed posed some problems. The Philippines is, for the most part Catholic, so I was ahead on that score.

Except divorce is not recognised there. And I was .....

Well, my beloved's parish priest indulged my request to marry one of his flock, but sent me to a Church lawyer to determine my position. An interview to see if I deserved a dispensention.

Happily, due to previous career possibilities, I have more than a passing aquaintance with Canon law. So I sort of expected the questions, and ruefully, had all the correct answers prepared. The good ones.

We got the blessing of the Church.

No money changed hands.

So it came then to organising de weddin

My beautiful gwapa fiancée mentioned a wedding planner in town. So we rocked up to see him, or her. Honestly, amongst his/her team of about 10 people I had no idea who was a male or shemale or any other sort of thing.

But they did a marvellous job.  I just let them administer their craft on the ladies, and popped down to the barber's for a 50 peso haircut.

We had a society wedding in the best hotel and resort in town. In all honesty, I have never met people as beautiful as Filipinos. Superb, heart warming reception full of good cheer.

Then we went for the honeymoon.

Singapore is worth a visit, no matter what your age, or the time you get up at. The only difficulty I encountered was the hordes of Chinese guests in our hotel who descended like locusts on the breakfast buffet. I will draw the curtains of charity on the scenes that ensued, suffice it to say simply, that the average Chinese head is at the same level as an Irish elbow.

We flew to Thailand. Bangkok is truly full of more riddles than I well ever be able to resolve. I kept thinking of Murray Head's song. Frankly, nothing was what it seemed.

An overnight train and a ferry to the most beautiful islands was what we needed. Scenic, sandy  beaches and azure sea, did it for me. My beautiful wife however required more than my earnest exhortations to understand that the many tall beautiful girls were not . . well, girls.

Railways in Thailand are run by the military, so before boarding our train I was sternly warned by a tiny general in an impressive uniform that alcohol on the train was strictly forbidden. What ? Why in the world would he be suspecting me of any divilment in that regard, I questioned rhetorically in my own head? Without any sensible answer, I must add. Homer Simpson's monkey with cymbals were active there.

Thankfully, no sooner were we installed in our private James Bond style compartment, but some tiny gent with a twinkle in his eye knocked on the sliding door to offer us some beer. He could have been the general's brother, forsooth, it may have been the general himself in mufti.

Two weeks passed more quickly than I can describe, sea sand and .... the other thing, and so it was back to the Philippines for another few weeks which revolved around house hunting.

As a pasty faced white boy, in Duterte's land of the war against drugs, there was not much alcohol involved in that adventure, but a lot of firearms. More to come . .

On a sad note, farewell John Prine  . . . can't get Sam Stone out of my head. Kinvara misses you laddie.

A slight oversight.

As my bride walked gracefully down the aisle, this music was played :
The Irish on here will realise the meaning.

Spanner1, I refer to thee.

It was, in my opinion, a first for the Philippines.

Great choice for a wedding tune Kev ! Def a first in the Philippines !   Paddy Maloney lives in Laragh Co. Wicklow.  I met Matt Molloy in the beer tent at Ballisodare Festival circa 1978 and we had a lively discussion about how whistle and flute players go prematurely bald .. lol !

for the unenlightened here, and as Spanner 1 has failed to give a clue, Tabhair dom do Lamh in the language of Scholars, Kings and other nobility in Ireland means "give me your hand"

Spanner 1 is connectected with the great musicians known as The Chieftains. That is a fine claim to make. I am envious.

I've got "Irish Heartbeat" in my collection somewhere, I will pull it out and have a listen it's been awhile.
Had the privilege many years ago at the Enmore.

I believe, Brian, you speak of the famed collaboration between The Chieftains and Van Morrison, the Belfast cowboy. 'Twas a good piece of work indeed.

The harpist / keyboard player / dulcimer bashing member of the group was one fine, I could say stout, fellow also from Belfast. The legend that was Derek Bell. He had an impish sense of humour which saw him release a solo album entitled "Derek Bell plays with himself".

A wee rogue, sadly left us now.

Tis indeed that, of which I speak Uncle Kev.
I did manage to to retrieve it and as usual when I settle down with this album I end up fairly pissed and bit melancholy. Great stuff.

Nuttin wrong with dat you ould broth of a boy !

Another great collaboration was the "Clontarf Cowboy" Phillip Donnelly who played regularly with John Prine, like here :

For the avoidance of all doubt, Phillip has a Shamrock on his guitar, and Clontarf is on the Northside of Dublin.

I never met either personally, but know many who did, and I feel their loss.

Thanks for that Uncle Kev, but I suspect my Irish grandmother would have discribed me as a "blaggard".

Tim Brook Taylor, The Chicago Postman, this bloody virus has a lot to answer for. It is  stealing the best of us.

Not much of Asia venturing, still stuck in Ireland.

Not such a bad brief, in fairness, but restricted to 5 Km travel and pubs closed for a year.

5th floor apartment, three motorbikes. I hope the lift will bear the final weight.
