Topic: Rearsets for 77-78 CB550?

Has anyone installed rearsets on a 77-78 CB550K?

I don’t want to use the passenger pegs... Too far back (plus mine are already gone).

I know it all comes down to brackets... What have you used?

Try fastfromthepast for bolt on Tarrozi's...I honestly can't remember if they have them for a 77k or not.

I’ve tried them, their kits apparently only fit 72-76 CB550s, just like the ones at Cognito Moto.

Seems like just about any would work, just need a bracket like the one Cognito sells, but apparently those brackets won’t fit the 77-78.

It's probably not the bracket...the brake linkage is probably the problem.

Well the only place I know which even makes a bracket to fit rearsets onto a 550 is Cognito Moto, all others use passenger pegs as the mounting point or expect you to make your own brackets.

The linkage is easy, the universal linkage kits can be cut to perfectly quite easily.

Just need a bracket to mount the rearset peg like halfway between where it’s placed originally and where the passenger peg is located.

The brackets from Cognito don’t clear the passenger peg brackets that are welded onto the frame. They interfere with the lower part of the bracket. In my case, the left side came off altogether and the lower part of the triangle got relocated and rewelded, as the right side is the locator for the exhaust I’m using.

Hmm interesting, so the reason they don’t fit the 77-78 is just a clearance issue?

My passenger pegs are completely gone already, that entire triangle mount for the peg was cut off and smoothed our with an angle grinder.

Does this mean the Cognito brackets may work after all??

Dude, give Cognito a call and tell them what you want to do. I've done custom work with them and they're awesome to work with. Very helpful, amazing customer service and excellent build quality of their parts.

Hmm ya I called them to ask questions about their currently available rearsets, and the guy I spoke to was acting like he couldn’t be bothered (this was back in Nov, way before the Corona situation).

I guess it wouldn’t hurt to call again to give it another go, and perhaps ask about custom or one-off situations.

Hmmm.. I’ve always communicated through email, never talked to them on the phone. Always worked with Devin. He always answered my questions and even answered late emails before the next business day. He went above and beyond in customer service in my experience.
