Ride tracking apps?
« on: April 27, 2020, 09:43:06 AM »
Was wondering if you guys use ride tracking apps and if so, which ones?

I have a couple on my iPhone, Scenic Rides and Life360

Took a ride on the Kawasaki Z1 on Friday....not many straight roads around here!

forgive my ignorance but do these apps suggest rides or just record the rides you plan yourself?

Calimoto allows you to plan a ride based upon numerous factors: direction from where you are, types of roads you'd like to travel, total mileage you'd like to ride, time you'd like to ride, etc.

We use it to navigate our way through the backroads skipping all highways and secondary roads. We ride 200-300 miles a day, averaging about 54 MPH on tertiary roads. The curvier the better. When you don't know the roads, having a bluetooth connection to audibly alert you that a stop/turn is approaching is often very, very convenient. Lots of the roads have limited sight distance and signs and corners appear miraculously with little to no warning.

Fortunate for me/us, we live well outside the city and have access to great roads to the mountains, through them, and back. Rides are great and frequent. Burning up Q3s every 8 weeks.

LOL. Wish I had. It's free with limited area, fee-based for national coverage.

Holy Crapola, you must be ticket bait.. sounds like the way we were in our 20s and 30,s.

I use thus thing, not an app , called roadmaps,  they are paper, and another thing called a memory.. which is how I get to Bonneville  900 miles, with no map., Another I use is Coffee Break with Internet, usually at Starbux or McDonalds. I have ni phone but a Samsung tablet. So I use it often to check mileage or route, like look up Pendleton to Boise, then it brings up a driving map and distance, sometimes I screen shot it or take notes like  turn east on 542 at ×××× town.   Works pretty good for me except I can't show the route I went to you guys.. like the pic I continued on past Cherryville , 1/2 way  to the 6 on the map on yesterdays ride..

Frank....... just laughed my ass off. I too use “maps”. They fold and fit nicely in my tank bag. I was looking at one a few months ago and my 8 year old g’daughter was fascinated. “Daddy just asks the lady in our truck’s dashboard”........

That I'd almost as funny as what the grandkid next door said about our dog.
About a year ago our black lab got cancer and lost her front leg..got around good on 3 legs moetly
And she later  got worse and lasted till mid Jan , rest her soul.

And in late Feb we  got another black lab cross,a bit smaller than the last one. And a similar name..She frequently goes to the neighbors chainlink fence when they are outside. One day the grandson was there looking a the dog, and asked my daughter.... Hiw did the dog get its leg back on.. lol..

Looks like a nice ride with lots of water. Friend has something like that on his bass boat/fish finder and I had to laugh at all the zig zags on the map we made all over that lake we fished on for a week during a vacation. Some cool stuff out there for you smart phone people.

Holy Crapola, you must be ticket bait..

Not really...that averages only 47 mph.  Mostly open area riding out here, I dont live in an urban area.
It's just a half mile to great roads where most everyone drives 60-70 mph, ride too slow and you will get run over!

Hey Bud!   Yes, we've had a couple good rides up to "The Rock"!

Hope this virus stuff is over by the fall so we can do it again.

Indeed.  I’ve been enjoying the awesome spring weather here as much as I can.  Did 100+ miles yesterday.

I’m going to try to make a Hill Country run in a couple of weeks.

Andy...do you like Scenic?  I opened it up and started it for my ride the other day and when I got home and checked it, it stated that it had "unexpectedly stopped". WTH?!

I use www.myrouteapp.com
For planning, tracking, export/import GPS, phone app and more.
Great is you can select map you want (i.e. Open street map, garmin, tomtom, here..)
Bonus is export directly to Garmin or TT navi and all teammate will havr the same route.

Yes I have been using it since it came out a few years back and even though it makes some routing errors (adds extra odd bits sometimes) I like the overall feel of it. Still getting used to the upgraded version (Scenic 2.2). I use it with 4 bikes so each bike has its own profile and stats. I have a few others on my phone (Here we Go - not bike specific, REVER, Ridewithgps, MotionX-GPS, OSMandMAPS, maps.me) but dont really use them compared to scenic.
