Exhaust Corrosion - Concern?
« on: May 25, 2020, 08:41:23 AM »
Pulling off the headers on my recently-purchased 550K has revealed a lot of corrosion and rust on the inside of the exhaust collars. One seems to be wet despite the engine not running for about a month.

Is this expected on a bike that doesn't seem to have had much attention in the last 40 years, or is this a sign of something more significant?

Thanks all!

I would say this is expected on a bike that hasn't had much attention in the last 40 years.

The wet you mentioned appears to be oil, perhaps you have a leaky cam cover gasket?

None of this appears harmful in any way, if these are the only issues with your bike I'd say put it back together and have a great riding season.
