Powder coating prices?
« on: June 02, 2020, 10:39:04 AM »
Just wondering what you guys are paying to have the frame and swing arm powder coated. So far I've been quoted about 265.00 usd from two different places

I think I paid $350 to have all the black parts of my 72 CB350f powder coated in 2018.
There were lots more parts besides the frame and swingarm however....

She turned out pretty good looking in the end though.

The 550 will get the same treatment this winter.  For now she's in pretty good shape:

$265 sounds like a good price. You need to go over the areas you do NOT want powder on with the coater. That #$%* is a #$%* to remove from places like the rear shock mounts, in threaded holes etc. You may even want to loosely tape them off so they won't forget. They will replace it with their tape.

I just watched a video on how to remove the swingarm bushings that the shocks attached to which didn't seem too terrible but I have no idea how I'm going to remove the big bushings/collar things in the swing arm. Do they have to be removed to be powder coated?

I don't know if you have to remove them before powder coating but if you plan to install new bushings it's probably a good idea to get the old ones out before powder coating.  Because it's easy to do some damage to the paint job on the swingarm when you remove them.  So you might as well take them out before the swingarm goes to the powder coater.

If you aren't going to replace the bushings then perhaps they can remain installed, just make sure the powder coater knows to block that passage in the swingarm.

I think that the next time I powder coat a swingarm I'll remove the old bushings, install the new bushings, then make sure that the powder coater does not powder coat inside the swingarm tube.

Not to hijack this thread, but what's the best way to remove and install swingarm bushings?

Good luck with your resto!

Fairly basic, I just drive them out with a long drift punch
