Engine Done - Thank you!!!
« on: June 11, 2020, 08:12:29 AM »
Pictures of the engine together. This forum (PeWe, 754, Bodi, Flybox1, calj737, Don R, Hondaman, especially BryanJ, and so many others), the Hackaweek videos, Hondaman’s book, Ken at Cycle X, Ted (socalcaferacer) and the shop manual have all been invaluable in getting this far.

Thank you all!!!

Well...except the shop manual...there’s a love/hate relationship there.

Very nice looking, are you going to put an oil pressure gauge on it? I noticed the plug was out.

How did you get the engine block looking so good?  I understand the chrome and aluminum covers looking great, but the rest and especially the fins look better than when it was new.  Great job!

Have a Marshall oil pressure gauge going there.

Had a friend of mine who does a lot of insurance paint work do the block, he did a great job.

Ekpent! Definitely meant to give you a shout out. You’ve commented on quite a few posts! Appreciate that. Stock pistons, did get some undercut gears from cycle x as well as their ceramic race bearings.

Frame got powder coated black. Just put the motor back in the frame today.

The sleeves covering the wire harnesses also look great.  What did you you, or where did you get them from?

I got the braided sleeving from Nelco. 1/2”, 3/8”, and 1/4”. Can’t remember which sizes were used where, but it’ll be easy to figure out. Works like a Chinese finger trap: push it together and it expands far larger than the original diameter. That’s how you get the connectors through. You use the smallest size you can get to work and melt the ends with a lighter after cutting (but before putting the wiring through). Nelco actually won’t sell in quantities as small as 10’, but when I called they were willing to work with me. Great company and a good product. McMaster-Carr sells some in smaller lengths.

I've seen those used in higher quality computer power supplies.  Good stuff; looks pretty good on the engine too.  Great idea!
